Type-Moon(Nasuverse) RPG

Note: This is a rough mockup. This will be easier once I have all the rules for Special Qualities codified.

Rider-class Servant: Ramesses the Great

Regarded by many as the greatest pharaoh to have ever lived, the epitome of the power and majesty of ancient Egypt, Ramesses lived a long and successful life as the third, and by far the longest-reigning, pharaoh of the Nineteenth Dynasty.
Establishing the city of Pi-Ramesses as his new capital, reaching his navies into the Mediterranean to crush the Sherdana, and his armies into the Near East to face the Hittites (most famously at the various battles fought at Qadesh) and south into Nubia, the pharaoh's writ ran large and even before his death was revered by his subjects as a living god.
He is renowned as one of ancient Egypt's greatest builders, with temples, statues, obelisks and other works created by his decree across Upper and Lower Egypt.
He was a fearless and skilled leader in war, despite a few upsets at Qadesh along the way. He also proved to be a great man of peace, as he transformed the state of Near East political relations by forging a solid alliance with the Hittite king Hattusili III through the Eternal Treaty, or Treaty of Qadesh the world's oldest peace accord.
And as with all pharaohs, once his reign finally ended (when he was in his nineties very old for a pharaoh) his soul was commended to enjoy a reign of millions of years, to shine upon the heavens as a new star in the Orion or perhaps Osirian constellation.
But as a copy of his records enjoys a place of prominence within the Throne of Heroes, he might be interested in taking a break from his astral sovereignty, and ride to war once more...

Noble Phantasms

~Royal Bow: Hailstorm of Arrows~
Rank: C/D
Type: Anti-Unit
Range: 3-40
Targets: Up to 4

While mounted on his mighty chariot, Ramesses relied upon his trusted bow for ranged attacks, when the tide of the battle called upon the use of bow fire rather than melee combat. He can fire the bow normally at a single target, or rapid-fire at up to four targets with shots with a reduced chance of hitting the targets in question. The damage is as per arrow, but the Rank C Archery attack causes an extra 11 points of damage and is at +2. The Rank D Archery attack adds +5 to the damage for the attack and and is at -1 to hit.

~Khopesh: Scythe of Horus~
Rank: C-
Type: Anti-Unit
Range: 1
Targets: 1
Notes: Damage as a normal scythe but adds +11 to damage rolls and is at +2 to hit. It is a Noble Phantasm class weapon and can hurt spirits.
Ramesses' preferred melee weapon, used either on foot or while mounted, claimed the necks of countless enemies of the kingdom, and was notable for being the first such weapon used by a Pharaoh in combat. Despite this, it is not one of Ramesses more powerful weapons, but enough to suffice if the need arises.

~Chariot of a Living God: Deliverer of Victory~
Rank: A+
Type: Anti-Army
Range: 2-50
Targets: 100
Notes: causes 150 points of damage, Ramesses is at +6 to hit with this attack. Area of effect is 110 yards. Always costs 1 Luck point to use.
A manifestation of the war chariot upon which the living Ramesses made war upon his enemies, the chariot is fast and powerful, pulled by two horse Phantasmic Beasts - named Victory in Thebes and Mut is Satisfied, after the steeds which bore his chariot at Qadesh, and guided by the will of the Egyptian gods. Two damage rolls, from the hooves of the two Phantasmic horses and the chariot wheels, are made and then added together to yield the result (Storytellers can just pretend to roll dice before announcing the damage). In addition to the physical damage from both attacks, the chariot serves as a stable firing platform for Ramesses, allowing him to use his Royal Bow unhindered even at a galloping pace. Maintaining this running carriage will require 15 Mana points per round it is moving across the battlefield.

~Tablet of Qadesh: Eternal Treaty~
Rank: A+
Type: Support
Range: N/A
Targets: N/A
One of the most renowned accomplishments of Ramesses reign was the signing of the Eternal Treaty with the Hittite king Hattusili III, which turned two long-standing rivals into firm allies, and cemented Egypt's place as a dominant power in the Near East. Indeed, a copy of the Treaty can be found at the United Nations building in New York, where it still serves as an example of powers setting aside war and turning to diplomacy in its stead.
If Ramesses activates the Tablet while he and his Master form an alliance with another Master and Servant, the Tablet provides benefits to both parties for the duration of the accord. Each Servant must sacrifice a permanent point of Luck to power the Tablet. The Tablet records the name of the allied Servant upon its surface, as the cartouche representing the Servant magically appears on its surface. It then bestows Independent Action rank A on Ramesses and the allied Servant, and both Ramesses and the allied Servant have one of either their Strength, Agility or Endurance stats (determined randomly) boosted by one level (add +2 to that statistic).
The accord must be re-affirmed at some stage within 72 hours, at which point it, and its abilities, are extended by a further 72 hours. If it is allowed to lapse, the name of the other Servant disappears from the tablet's surface, and the bonuses granted to both Ramesses and the other Servant are lost. At that time, the sacrificed Luck point is restored.
However, if either Ramesses or the allied Servant (or their respective Masters) break the alliance while the accord is still in effect, the tablet unleashes a powerful curse upon the offending party. The cursed Servant suffers a reduction of their physical stats by two for 72 hours after the contract is broken.

I'm not sure what Flaws he'd have, but
Adversary (other Masters and Servants) would be one of them. Maybe you could suggest some.

Just a quick (rpg off topic thing)

I actually managed to watch the Fate/Stay Night Anime recently and it happened to be one of the best Series i have seen.

It was an Excellent series and while now having more knowledge on what your doing (having read about Fate/Hollow and Fate/Zero (i think its Fate/ Zero??))

But yes, cant wait to see it finished :)

I think if you like the series, you'll absolutely love the game it's based on. The anime is based on just one route of the game, with a few nods to the other two routes thrown in. You'd have to import it (and you might want to go with the CD version), but mirrormoon made a very good English patch for it.

The game does address Fate/Zero and Fate/Hollow Ataraxia, but also draws attention to the entire Nasuverse (all the connected works from the same author), including Tsukihime and Kara no Kyoukai. Now that I think of it, I am sure you'd enjoy playing through Tsukihime as well, and there's also a mirrormoon translation patch for that.

Yeah the original games are visual novel type things arnt they?

You refer to Unlimited Blade Works and Heavens Feel???

I read through some mini articles on them both but they are very different to the main story, i believe a couple of peices from those 2 segments were added to the Anime?

Archers Identity during the Berzerker fight being one i think??

I have heard of Tsukihime but have yet to look it up.

Apprently they are in the works for something else with the Fate/Stay Night saga aswell as something to do with Fate/Zero...

All exciting stuff :)

I might have to find copies of the Games....

Chapter ten is up and online. With that, you now have everything you need to make a character - including Servants. While the game is not finished (I need to stat every character from KnoK, Fate Zero, Tsukihime, and FSN), everything you need to make characters and run the game is up and in the pdf. :D

I'm reworking the stats for the casts of the books and games. After that will come the glossary, which will complete the .pdf.

You know, what your describing sounds alot like World of Darkness. There's sort of a Mages Association only it's really several different orders that does alot of "politicing". Same with vampires.

Vampires in the Nasuverse are not as organized as the ones in the oWoD; the vampires in the Nasuverse are more interested in causing mayhem and drinking blood. Sometimes they will work together (Nero and Roa, the Dark Six, etc.) but those are merely alliances of convenience.

This is not to say that it's impossible for a vampire to be good, but it's the exception, not the rule.

As for the Mages Association, I think Nasu kept it rather vague in order to give himself as much leeway in possible when writing his stories. It's set up like a very large boarding school with many different departments, and it seems that some students can specialize by choosing what type of magic or occult concept they want to study. Mages need to keep their magic "on the down low", and if they are too public with their use of Magic the Association will hunt them down. The Association also has a standing order to find and retrieve anyone who achieves something close to a true miracle; these people are then put into stasis so they can be carefully studied and their procedures copied.

There's no mention of the internet in any of Nasu's work, so I'm not sure if you could make Nodes, etc. like you can in the old Mage.

*ressurects thread*

It's a sign of how long I had been away from the boards before the ADB deal was announced, but my interest in one day seeing the Nasuverse formally RPG-ified remains undimmed.

For those interested in all things Type-Moon, there have been a few interesting develoments over the past year or two.

*ufotable, the guys who produced the Kara no Kyoukai movies, are currently working on an anime adaptation of Fate/Zero; which should hopefully start airing in the autumn.

No word yet on who will license it in the West, but if it gets picked up, it should be worth checking out.

*The list of Type-Moon PSP games had its most significant new addition last year over in Japan, with the alternate-universe word of Fate/Extra.

0414comic.jpg

(The pic is from an ongoing manga adaptation; the visual style in the game proper is somewhat different.)

F/E is set in an alternate timeline to that of F/Z and F/SN; branching off in the early 1980s, the game itself takes place in the year 2032. In this timeline, the world's mana supply has rapidly diminished, bringing down most of the secret institutions which had guarded the use of thaumaturgy.

This time, the Grail War does not take place in Fuyuki city, but within Se.Ra.Ph, a bubble of reality within the Moon Cell Automaton; a vast and ancient alien supercomputer buried beneath the lunar surface. (The souls of the Masters involved are "digitised" and transplanted into avatars within the Moon Cell itself; their bodies are left comatose on Earth, and die if the soul is destroyed.)

Rather than having seven Masters and seven Servants, this war has no less than 128 pairings; each week, the pairs are drawn against each other, so week 2 has 64, week 3 32, and so on until you reach the final round. You as the player mainly focus on the match-ups (and rival Master-Servant duos) you are drawn against, so there is plenty of scope left to write about some of the those not shown on screen, heh.

You as the player choose to play as either a generic Male or Female Protagonist; you have a choice of three Servants; Saber, Archer and Caster. Of those, Saber and Caster are wholly new; Archer is the most familiar, but even he is not exactly the same as his F/SN counterpart. Almost all of the enemy Masters and Servants you face are new; even those who look familiar are not always who they seem to be.

There's a thread over at the new Beast's Lair (the old BL closed and was obliged to move to a new server) with a translation of Fate/the Fact; a booklet that came with early runs of the game, and which showed some of the details of 2032-land from an in-character perspective. (F/E itself is set within Se.Ra.Ph, so you mainly see the world which has been conjured out of the "Sea of Electrons" for you.)

I'm glad you are still interested in the project. I've finished writing up rules for just about all of the Tsukihime and FSN crew and will have the Kara no Kyoukai crowd up shortly. There's rules for making magic along with all of the spells listed in the grimoire, along with a lot of little rule fixes. There are also name generation tables available there, and an IRL tour of the "Tohsaka Mansion" in Kobe along with some of the other spots from the VN.

I plan to stat Fate Zero later on (possibly releasing updates timed to go with the anime as it comes out) but at the moment I'm not really that interested in treating Fate Extra. FE doesn't take place in the regular Nasuverse so it seems outside of the scope of the project. If you wanted to write your own outline or notes I'd be happy to host the project for you and would give you full credit.

And by the way, how have you been? In between moving from America to Japan and back, I've been teaching from home over the net and taking Japanese classes while saving up for my tiny house.

F/E might take place in an alternate timeline (or rather, timelines, if you count the various options as their own near-parallel realities), but it has no less valid a place along the Kaleidoscope even so.

I grabbed Fate/Extra on my trip to Japan last year,
(psp's and regionless goodness)

it is still currently unplayed waiting for my Japanese to improve :)

Although not sure if it was mentioned they did bring out the anime movie for the Unlimited Blade works arc of the original series... which i want, i would have bought that but i wanted the Blu-Ray and we are not the same region as Japan anymore... so thought id be patient, no word on that being released over here yet though...

fingers crossed.

The Kara no Kyoukai cast has been statted and added to the main book. What's left to do is stat the Fate/Zero cast and add credits, thank yous, index, and other minor details. I know that you guys are really excited about the idea of Fate/Zero, and I'd be happy to host any manuscript you want to make for it.

Speaking of Fate/Extra...

fateextra_image.jpg

Waking up in a strange virtual world with no recollection of the past, the main character finds themselves forced to fight for survival in a war they do not understand for a prize beyond value; the opportunity to have one’s wish granted. With only an enigmatic Servant, mysterious Legendary Souls drawn from the whole of human history, by their side the protagonist will have to face both friends and foes in battles to the death in order to not only gain possession of a mysterious object known as the "Holy Grail", but also to find the answer to the most important question of all: "Who am I?"

One of the guys over at the Aksys boards found this pre-order page for the North American release of Fate/Extra; you can see pics from the English translation in the image preview.

Not sure if that price and release date will be accurate or not, but we'll see.

It's gotten a bit lonely in here... oh well.

In case anyone here is interested in Fate/Extra, Aksys recently went live with an official website for the inbound PSP game. (Here's hoping it will do well enough to encourage them to consider adding the second game to the list of games to bring over from Japan at some later stage...)
