No he does not. Note however that the Improved Trip feat allows you to make a follow up attack with whatever weapon you used to trip and the Fling Aside combat manuver deals damage as an unarmed strike and leaves the opponent prone as though he were tripped (though it uses a grapple check for the mechanic instead of an opposed trip roll).
