Can the PCs be in the Aquilonian army?
It's level 1 to what?
I don't see any reason why they can't be in the army. They are recruited by the head of the Black Dragons after all and are unlikely to have a reputation that makes them well known at low levels. The GM can give the PCs a chance with meeting with King Conan early on so that might fit well with a story set in the the army.
The campaign suggests level 1 or 2 to start and by the end I would guess 9 or 10 but Bryan could say better.
The players start in Tarantia then travel to a mining town name Sicas in Aquilonian. From there it is back to the capital and then on to Tor in Nemidia. The book details what happened in the power vacuum after Conan Slew Lord Amalric.
From there the story takes a trip across the mainland of Hyboria to the western shores of Argos, specifically to an island of the coast.
After that they are directed to meet up with the Captain of the Indigo Storm which is currently docked in Messantia. Here the adventure will take place on the sea tracking down the location of a maiden. There is a neat tie-in where the PCs can learn that the captain was a deck-hand on the Tigress.
Then the adventure takes them to the Black Kingdoms where the PCs will dock at a village called Xobowa which in in Kushite I believe. From there they will have to travel upstream eventually leaving the river to travel on land in the deep jungle.
After returning from the deep jungle the PCs will travel along a caravan(and probably be in for a nasty surprise) the southern stygian border, where stygia meets Dafur, specifically looking for a lake Zuad. Here they will encounter Prince Durambe, a half-kushite half tlazitlan warlord that in the scenario mentions Conan almost killed during his time as a mercanry(I don't remember if this is from a story or not).
After that the PCs travel into Stygia itself to a ruin called Qarnak where th e final encounters will take place.
