Travellers, Banks, and Character Finances

You may well be able to outrun the X-Boats, but the bank isn't going to let you access your account back on Regina until the financial data arrives.

And, the signal will propagate slowly but surely, until every bank on every Imperial world knows the character(s) have committed financial shenanigans. If their actions are bad enough, the characters might find themselves wanted in those Imperial systems as well. Even if they flee the Imperium, it's entirely possible that Imperial banks share data on untrustworthy individuals with non-Imperial banks and vice versa. The characters might find their range to roam getting smaller and smaller until they're stuck in the wilds outside the major empires, hiding out on Belgardian Sojourn or someplace like that. If a major Imperial bank puts a bounty on the characters, planetary authorities might arrest them and keep them in some absolute hole of a prison until the bank sends the money, or turn them over to a travelling Imperial magistrate who executes justice on the spot. Can't stop the wave.

More likely, a secure electronic wallet is carried by the customer and funds can be deposited into or withdrawn from it to the local branch account (or you use physical credits for the same purpose). You could authorise transfers between your local accounts, but those are going to go at the speed of Bank.

Now... a customer in good standing that needs a small loan can arrange just that. A local personal loan, paid off locally. With interest.

The local loan idea seems like a good side quest for a group of Travellers who didn't bring enough of the physical credits with them and need to pay for something, like a needed surgery or a repair to their ship. They can't wait for the financial data to arrive so the "local personal loan" comes with this conversation, "We'll pay for it but we need you to do a little job for us. Out in the badlands there is a downed ship and we need you to get something from it. We know how capable you are, it shouldn't be a problem..."
