Traveller Release Schedule 2024

We need new blood in this game. We are all a bunch of geriatrics! lol
While it's true that any game needs new blood to survive, no one born after 2000 is going to visit a web forum. Way too archaic to them. So the player demographic in here might be a bit skewed with only us old geezers (and geezerettes). The younger whippersnappers use those newfangled Twisters and Instantgrams, or whatever they are called. Bah! Glad they keep off my lawn at least...

Ideally, I think a twelve inch screen, on a really light platform.

Skinny, too.
They used to make a Kindle DX that was that size. It did not sell well enough. The Scribe is currently the largest eInk screen out there in regular use.

LCD screens take up more weight and power. I tend towards the Kindle for reading/some writing and sketching. The phone/PC for multi-tasking.

No. For full colour books, POD still does not hit the right level of quality. Good for b/w though.
That said, I would buy B/W POD of Traveller books, even 2e books with artwork converted to B/W with simple filters that improve contrast of greycolor artwork, and background removes.

So what is the best portable reader out there these days that handles PDFs well, including text size and display format?
I love my Lenovo Tab P12. It's fast at zooming PDFs, has a big and sharp screen and cost way less than an ipad.
Bonus: It comes with a scribus, so you can even use it for drawing and filling out your character sheet PDFs.
You can also get a keyboard & touchpad for it, turning it into a nice little laptop.

A Windows Tablet PC :)

They come from 10 inches up with the standard Adobe software on the standard Windows OS and with Intel or AMD CPU that have tons of power. And a good refurbished one with 12+ inches from Amazon is around 300€ for an 8GB memory / 256 GB SSD model from HP/Lenovo/Microsoft with a core i5 CPU.

Also allows running all those nice "Exel" spreadsheets etc. that are useful during the game. And can do Wireless Display to the TV in the gaming room for maps and all.

Yes, it is. The reason for me asking the question is to solicit opinions.
I use an OLD HP laptop and a Kindle Fire for pdf's at games.
The old laptop frequently delays the game while I set up files, especially if it decides to finish an update because reasons (and I forget to start it on the morning of game day to let it get all that out of its system). Not the best, but once the files are up it works. And because it is old, and the files are on a portable hard drive, it doesn't matter if I accidentally drop the thing.
The Kindle Fire works better OUT of Kindle mode, but does not work as well as the laptop. BUT, I can pull up rules - or the Central Supply Catalogue - during a game to let players review or shop without interrupting my tabs or exposing the spreadsheet the adventure notes are on.

Basically a NO recommendation for those two.

Yes, I have an old basic Kindle, which will read PDFs, but the print in PDF mode is tiny enough to be really annoying (especially as I am older), and I really don't like to "magnify" the document and swipe the page back and forth to be able to read anything at length.

Thanks for the input.

I have been given a Samsung Galaxy A6 Tablet. Still getting to grips with it. However, so far I have found that the "Drive PDF Viewer" app is a bit faster than the "Adobe Acrobat" viewer app.

Do you have a way to display multiple PDF? That is one of the problems I have with using a similar Android device for games (Not having a way to run LibreOffice Macros is another)

OK, so I launched the “My Files” file manager. Selected “Internal storage”. Selected the folder I had some of my Traveller PDFs in. Clicked on one PDF (“Core Rulebook 2016 edition”). Chose to open it with the “Drive PDF Viewer”. Pressed the “two squares” hotkey at the lower edge of the device. Selected the “My Files” window. Selected another PDF (“High Guard Update 2022”). Chose to open it with the “Drive PDF Viewer”. Pressed the “two squares” hotkey to list open windows. It showed the two open PDFs and the “MyFiles” File Manager. The two open PDFs weren’t immediately obvious to me – look at the top of the window and you’ll see what I mean :)

Failing that, consider going to a local Linux User Group and asking for help :)

Some PDF readers allow multiple document tabs to be open simultaneously. Xodo PDF Reader does this on both Android and Windows. On launch just click/tap the "x" symbol in top-right corner to avoid paying/trailing for the Pro version.
