Traveller Modern

As people know from the COTI, I am toying around with the idea of restarting my Near Earth Traveller Campaign (pre 2100). It occurs to me that much of what people used to call Near Earth would now be classed as Modern after the d20 convention.

I was wondering if Mongoose has toyed with the idea of creating a OTU Traveller Modern (otherwise pre-2100AD) sourcebook? If not, here is me pitching the idea? I am not the greatest of writers but would be more than willing to collaborate with someone who is.

The year is 2013. The year in which everything changes. The world exists much as it exists now. However, a series of cataclysmic and earth shaking events in 1969 steered history in a very different pattern. Imagine the world that was dreamed about in 2001: Space Odyssey, Bond films, Gibson’s Neuromancer and a whole range of conspiracy theories. This is the world of Traveller Modern.

The game utilizes the Traveller history and mechanic to create a unique game set in our near but altered future. Players will be called upon to navigate this Hard SF milieu to avoid disaster that may doom the human race to its extinction or raise it to the next level for its salvation. Players are part of an elite team that is separate from any national government, outside the police forces, and beyond the United Nations. They must utilize their former contacts to discover the truth that lies beyond the veil.
 
Well if I were to do a campaign like this I would use such references as:

2001
2010
Space 1999
Outland
Saturn 5
Alien
Aliens
Silent Running
Total Recall
Earth II

To name a few and would weigh heavy on Space 1999 tech like the Eagles, Mark IX Hawks, Supper Swifts and etc!!!

There are actually quite a few movies and shows that one could also include but I would bas the tech around Space 1999 stuff mostly and add bits and parts from the others like 2001, 2010, Silent Running and so on

There would be NO Jump Drives, but instead travel between stars would take a long time and folks would use Cryo Sleep tubes and I would make the tech much more survivable.

Traveller rules actually fit the pretty well. The skills will mostly work as-is and the combat system works well for TL7-8 firearms, not to mention the equipment list including a good quantity of TL9- gear. All you have to do is set the game in TL8-9 (with no gravitics or jump-drives) and maybe create alternative careers.

The main area you'll probably want to change - other than careers, that is - is starship rules, posibly along the lines of what is discussed by this, this, this and that threads.
