Traveller - DM's for Characteristics

Hi. I had a really general question about characteristics.

Does the Dice Modifier for statistics progress by +1 for ever three characteristic points? A TL 30 Cargo Robot has a Strengh of 30 (+8 DM), so I thought it might be right
12-14 +2
15-17 +3
18-20 +4
21-23 +5
24-26 +6
27-29 +7
30-32 +8
and so on...
I did not see it explicitly stated. Is this progression infinite or if the relationship changes after a certain point?

An honest answer is that we have never officially stated this. However, for now, you can presume the progression continues.

This is slightly troublesome when using large animals, as it gives them a huge DM modifier to their melee attacks.

As I said, we have never given an official answer to this, and that is why :) This is something we will be revisiting when the Animal Encounters book comes out.

The way I would be inclined to deal with this would be to use the large animal's Dex DM to determine the to hit roll as this would seem most appropriate in attempting to strike a smaller, more agile opponent (making it relatively hard for a likely less dextrous large elephantine creature to hit) possibly with further negative DMs for hitting the smaller target but then if it does hit use the Strength DM to determine the effect and hence the damage (as it is gonna have to hurt a lot to get hit by such a creature).

So in summary use Dex to give a low chance to hit the smaller opponent but then switch to Str for damage... that's how I'd house rule it until Animal Encounters comes around.
