Traveller 5E

I often find stretch goals in these projects to be kind of dumb. It's not intrinsically true that useful additional material is available to be made. So either it is material that is going to be released anyway but put as "stretch goals" for marketing or its weird stuff of the sort you used to get in "Deluxe editions" of video games, back when those were physical objects. Gewgaws for the Gewgaw Gods.

As far as timelines go, I've backed projects where I got the PDF I wanted the instant the funding period was completed. And I've backed projects where the game didn't exist beyond concepts at the time of the kickstarter.

Is putting 5 or 6 books in one package like this project is doing a smart way to do crowdfunding? It certainly results in a large asking price, which has downsides. But so does putting out all the books in separate projects. But these guys have been in the industry for decades and have experience with multiple crowdfunded projects, so it seems likely they are making informed decisions.

Ultimately it doesn't matter one way or the other.
From a backer perspective, it is funded - you win.
From the authors perspective, it is funded - they win.
If you had no interest in this project then you were not require to fund it - you win.

It does not appear that this project will be diverting anyone's focus from your own preferred version of Traveller, if it was dead, it is still dead and if it is the MGT2 version then that product line continues to be developed.

If you dislike the way particular Kickstarters are run then it is like any other consumer choice, you either invest or you do not. Some of us invest in projects on spec (for me it was Wastelander), others like to see clear benefits before investing. If you really want to try before you buy you can wait for the retail version and avoid the kickstarter entirely. This is no different to anything else, you can be an early adopter and risk being disappointed or be a late backer and risk missing out or paying more. This applies to seeing the latest Star Wars film on first release or the new iPhone. For every person that raves about it there will be another person that hates it.

I dislike D&D 5th Edition intensely. I was never going to be a backer, I don't need to own another version of a game I rarely get to play anyway. Even had I been tempted to invest, whilst I don't mind dropping £20 on spec (I spend that on Humble Bundles of books I may never read), I am not comfortable investing at the £50+ level. That is my choice, others have made a risk balance assessment and decided to invest. None of us are objectively wrong as we all have different reasons.

For those that backed it I hope it is everything you believe/hope it will be.

Anyone posting on the thread is posting their opinions - with no product in hand nobody has facts. It's a Kickstarter, so you may, or may not, get what you are paying for with your pre-buy. Like life it's a crapshoot.

I dunno why the sniping of people who are not in the "take my money!" group. In some ways it feels very white-knightish for those coming down on people NOT expressing effusive praise for things.

I'm not personally backing this. It's not really a question of money, just not interested in it. MAYBE if it makes it out the door and a copy of something makes it to my local gaming store where I can put hands on the material I might get interested. I've backed most of the MGT kickstarters to add to my library (didn't do the last one though). Did T5 and I guess that's where I learned my lesson about backing things unseen where you put a lot of hope in them.

Everyone should feel comfortable expressing their thoughts - good or bad - in the forums w/o getting bashed unfairly.

People don't seem to be coming down on people who say, "I am not backing this."
I am not backing, because my players enjoy MgT2, but do not like 5E... and an expensive buy in exceeding the scope of prepaid gift cards that may or may not be accepted. (A growing issues of late. I couldn't buy VH'26 from Mongoose, but the card worked at DTRPG. Other card brands didn't work at DTRPG - and no one from varies companies seems to be able to say which cards will let the transaction go through)
Where people seem to be having issues are people saying it's dumb to back this or I am not backing it because of xyz, where xyx are BS.
I've not seen any negative responses to valid reasons being stated.
