Translators Needed (2300AD)

I'm looking for a few folks to provide translations and idioms for some of the more common languages and cultures in 2300AD. In particular, I need people with idiomatic knowledge of French, German, Ukrainian, Chinese, and Japanese, along with people familiar with idiomatic English in both the UK and Australia.

I can use an online translator as well as anyone, but that doesn't help with expressions and slang.

I can't promise anything more than a proper credit, but I will see what I can do.

This will address things such as some colony names, common phrases, and starship naming conventions, among other things.

I can help for the French part, but it depends on the amount of work to do. Besides, there's a lot of expressions in French, really hard to transcribe in another language without a good knowledge of the vocabulary of the latter (not my case). Others exist, but you must to know.

Ex : several expressions for "It rains cats and dogs". The first two are the most used.
-> il pleut des cordes (bonds)
-> il tombe des hallebardes (he falls halberds)

-> il pleut comme vache qui pisse (it rains like cow piss - familiar)
-> il pleut à seaux (buckets)
-> il pleut à verse
-> il pleut à torrents

English -> French : OK
French -> English : NOK

Where do I have to sign as the volunteer for the German language part
(or as one of such volunteers, in which case Bavarian German would be
"my thing") ?

I would be happy to do it for free, the mutilated and implausible German
in the original 2300 AD was a real pain.

By the way, there are also some other changes beyond language editing
to consider. For example, the Astronomisches Recheninstitut Heidelberg
of 2300 AD fame does no longer exist as a separate institution, in 2005 it
became a part of the new "Zentrum für Astronomie der Universität Heidel-
berg (ZAH)", together with some other astronomical institutions operated
by the university of Heidelberg. While it is certainly not really necessary
to change the name, to see the Astronomisches Recheninstitut still as a
"major player" in space research in a new 2300 AD would seem a bit odd.

The ARI could have come back in the current form after Twilight. It's a 290-year history. Of course, the first 70 or so years are essentially lost...

I did know a feller who did the Japan in 2300 site (he's an american? living in Japan - does translations.) I think he left the 2300 scene, though..

You could try the Etranger list?

UK English, specifically SE/London English English (as opposed to Scottish, Northern Irish, Welsh, Mancunian, Liverpudlian and so on...).

Also have Japanese and Korean friends who I can bounce stuff off.

You might only have maybe 1 fan that needs this language, but if it somehow becomes necessary I may be able to provide Thai translation. I guess it depends on if the project is too honking huge with a pressing deadline.
