Toys suitable for Gangs of Mega-City One

The smaller, more common matchbox cars simply don't work for me, I'm afraid. They're too small. I have a wrecked Mercedes Benz I've just undercoated that I think is 1:43 scale. If it wasn't for the bases on the miniatures (and the fact that the wheels have fallen into the body), then it would be too big. As it is, the minis look absolutely perfect stood next to it. The seats look big enough, the minis can stick their guns over the bonnet just right, and with the doors opened, it isn't hard to imagine my gang pushing it down the street with two gang members using the open doors as cover.

I'll take a photo of it tonight. Like I say, it is too big, but it looks fine. It's always going to be some kind of compromise, but when it comes down to it, I'd rather have it impressive-looking than small and weedy.

Sounds like an enzyte commercial.

Seriously though, that is exactly what I was saying. The scale you use is the same scale I use and the way I chose the scale is by sitting the Lawmaster Judge in the seat, he fits perfectly and while the body is a little big for the scale by the numbers, well these figs are a little oversized anyways and they have the base to account for too.

Not trying to cause a stir with this example but just so you can appreciate the scale of the vehicles I'm using here are the dimensions of 'ghost man' - the figure appearing in my photos:

Figure: Bodyguard with SMG
Manufacturer: em-4 Miniatures
Scale: 28mm
Height: 34mm (makes him about 6'6" tall)
Base: 3.5mm
Total Height: 37.5mm

See what I mean about most figures being seriously off scale!?

I don't think you're causing a stir, you're really proving the same point I am trying to make.

You are using figures that are, by the numbers, good for the scale this game claims to be.

But as you yourself stated these figures are bigger than the claimed size. so you would need vehicles that are bigger than the stated scale as well.

It all falls down to personal preference anyways, whatever pleases your eye. On a functional level it doesn't even matter unless you have custom rules for vehicles.

EDIT: Silverback, what does that little green dude look like next to a fig? Think he has any use at all?

Must be some new kind of criminal specialist I reckon! ;) It's 29mm high sans base.

Just out of curiosity I took, and measured (30mm), one of the astronauts from the Mega Rig kit and took a photo of it along with a diecast car and ghost man:

Just illustrates the difference between a 'real' 28mm figure and most of those manufactured by the hobby industry.

Whilst doing this I took another photo showing one of the configurations of the truck and trailer sections of the rig. It's amazingly flexible with its combinations!

The trailers (sidepods in the above image) can be joined side by side and fastened either in front or behind the tractor unit. They can also be fastened together to form a 'train' too. I may just have to invest in a second kit for some truly Mega-City trucks!

When you have those side pods lined up like that that thing is a monster! I would love to see the Judges taking down that thing, maybe with the Angel gang behind the wheel.

If I manage to get hold of another two sets I'd be able to have the sidepods AND a four abreast trailer being towed behind! That'd be half the table used up! :D

I don't know if the older Super NES RPGs were your style, or video games from that area in general, but I have a soft spot in my gaming heart for enemies that take up half the screen and by extension half the table. Bosses in my miniature and RPG games are usually huge beasts with multiple attacks and one weak spot.

So, that huge machine you are talking about sounds really awesome to me.

And yes, I can see how a true scale figure would look next to the hotwheels car. I conceded form the beginning you were right about the cars as far as numbers went. It's a shame we don't have anything in the future of this game to look forward to, like vehicles. Well, more vehicles, we do have the lawmaster and the paper cars from the box set. :P

I'm going to start looking at learning how to scratch build models from plasticard, plastruct, etc.. I've already measured out the 'mounting plate' of the space truck and made a template so that I can cut out the right base shape from plasticard so that it's possible to build additional 'bodies' that 'snap' onto the model without fouling the cab.

That looks so good man!
Paint it up though!!!

Looks like more of a non-com piece of scenery to me! Bloody nice though, I'd get one for the sake of that! Especially with the truck part (thingy gnahhh!).

Aren't you the one who swore never to buy something like this? Something in the mo-pads thread?

I've bought three Matchbox Planet Scouts off eBay and a Cosmobile. Hopefully they'll look okay (scale wise) and I'll post photos once I've received them.

I don't think so lol.

Hey-ooo. I've been busy cannibalising some old toys for GoMC1, starting with a Mercedes toy that used to be my older brothers from, ooooh, around the 70's. Here we see a bunch of (unpainted) gangers and a senior judge forced to defend themselves from an onslaught of aliens. I promise I'll get all my terrain and figures painted up soon!

The red and grey cars I actually bought today for £2 each. They were fairly well-made for the price, and there was a huge (but definitely right for 28-30mm) bendy bus in the same range as well for only £5, so I might get that in a few days. (PAINT, PAINT!)

A citidef officer thinks he can slip away from the fight (and subsequent arrest, if the bugs are eventually held back), but doesn't reckon on the sly nature of the Aliens... Good job they're always around to pick off the traitors!

I'm seriously thinking about buying one of these:

Dimensions: 21.1 x 38.4 x 50.8 cm ; 2.7 Kg

I wonder what on earth it could be used for!? ;)

Wow, what is that called? That is seriously nice.

I could see making a Justice Department vehicle out of it, or maybe some kind of Klegg vehicle.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Fast Forward - Hover HQ.

I reckon it'd make a good H-Wagon.
