Toys suitable for Gangs of Mega-City One

Just managed to get my hands on a brand new boxed & sealed copy of the Matchbox Mega-Rig Powered Space Base which should come in handy for fights in and around rather large vehicles and installations.

Silverback, I found this while trying to find those bigger vehicles you found, and while I think it's regular hot wheels scale and too small for me, this is a really nice looking vehicle and it would fit in with the scale of cars you use.

A quick repaint or leave it as it is. It's called a "Star Commander" and there are two on ebay and they are super cheap.[/img]

EDIT

I found this picture on another auction

Looks more lik eit would be a personal motor bike for a fig, so the small size is perfect in this case.

I appreciate the links, here are links to the two auctions I was talking about, I wasn't sure if it was ok to post auction links here.

Neither of those sellers have other items on offer that'd make it worth my while to pay for the shipping to the UK for either item.

Yeah, I thought it was kind of funny myself. Cause you posted those links for me and I thought that myself, and I figured you would think the same thing about the links I posted.

Heck, I want one of those and they don't have anything else I want that would make shiping worth it for me and I live in Florida.

Have used them a couple of times as un-modded wrecks (my Wigwammers have their gang wigwams up on the derelict Gary Cooper megway).

Have plans to do them up proper. They have enough room inside to fashion a luxy-mo-pad. With hottub.

Haha, that's brilliant. They really would look fantastic all painted up. Very Judge Dredd! Just hope you never come up against a former Power Rangers fan as an opponent...

Brilliant! I appreciate the picture, Ned! Those really look good and I like the scale.

Are these still in stores or should I give Ebay a check?

Got mine on eBay in Feb for about £4.99, plus £10 postage..

Got a couple of Fights coming up over the weekend, and - if I get my work done - will do some making on Friday.

O man I love this game.

One day Kardak you'll trust us on the scale issue. Until then here's some photos of the Mega Rig Space set I bought.

As you can see from the figure I use in my photos this thing is pretty darn big. But it's to scale as well.

The decision is whether to paint it all up at some time or use it as it is just in case I decide to sell it on in the future.

Paint it, definitely. It looks good now, but it'll look a trillion times better with a paintjob to allow it to fit in with everything else. I know it's a bit GW, but once you've got more things painted than not, it gets harder to allow anything onto your table that lacks any kind of paintjob.

Pa always warned me about painted women!

I purchased that lot for £20 (incl P&P) - I don't think GW sell anything for less than that nowadays do they?

Haha, it's been a long time since I bought anything brand new from them, but it was definitely getting that way last time I browsed their store.

I've realised that it'll actually be possible to scratch build modular parts for the Mega Rig Space toy using plasticard and plastruct parts. If you look carefully at the photos you'll notice there are quite a few pegs, holes and hexagonal recesses. Now all I need to do is buy some plastic bits and bobs and become great at model building!

I think we'll have to agree to disagree on that one. I just can't get into the aesthetics of a ganger standing by a two seater car and you can tell he would be able to straddle it like a bike.

Seems like the major available vehicle sizes are just a tiny bit too far in one direction, being either a little too big ro a little too small. Then again it's much better to have it one way or another and get your vehicles for two or three dollars each rather than paying ten and upwards for the properly scaled resin vehicles some miniature companies sell.

As for painting the space set, I don't know. I really think the way it is colored gives that 50's sci fi feel that sort of lasted into the early 80's. Maybe the best thing to do would be to use some inks and dry brushing to weather it and make the colors not as bright. Then if you decided to sell it you could at least clean it up a little if you had used water based paint.

As far as the set itself goes, I really dig it. Good find. If you are interested in becoming better at modeling then you shoudl check out, if you haven't yet, http://www.terragenesis.co.uk/ their site used to me easier to navigate, but you can still find some nice projects there and really helpful people.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what you do with these goodies you have picked up, you have a good eye for spotting things that really go with the overall feel of the setting.

I disagree to agree to disagree . . . or something like that [in the voice of Captain Jack Sparrow].

I'm still umming and arring over that one!

I've spotted something else, a couple of things actually, that may go with the setting. If I get them I'll post photos.
