Tired of the same old stuff

no im not complaining about the miniatures.

Im building a cap force and a bug army, i wanted a new setting for it to go on... i mean bases fluff etc any thoughts?

I was thinking of the Zegema beach (read city fight) invasion but i would like to hear others

Well, avoid previously set up stuff. Let's go with a desert planet that suffers periodic sandstorms and is mildly volcanic.

Galatea's Ice Bugs are worth a look they're really impressive!

... The pictures aren't working right now, but its definatly worth bugging him to see if he'll repost them

Hiro's idea's nice to, bright red looks good for desert bases :D

Ill get onto him about it. Thought the city fight ones are something different too. Oh well ill dream on it, thanks for coming in on my side mate. I just hope the annoucment comes soon, it should put some things to bed, or make for bad dreams.

Lol any time!
I tend to get a bit annoyed with people like that anyway, and what with there being so few of us original SST forum players left, I figured it couldnt hurt to get stuck in :D

i love the pathfinders but everyone puts them in the jungle. what other setting would work? any takers?

IIRC they are specialising on taking bugs in their tunnels so whatabout making them look like they are ready for some tunneling action?

hmmm perhaps i was also thinking about a special tactics unit like swat too.

How about a world that is somehow perpetually in the dark...you can do primarilly dark colored bugs with really bright spots... like the deep sea fish!

Here's the Ice Warrior:

I suggest you making your Bugs red and give them some red rocky bases (with much debris on them).
Mars Bugs - that would have been my way if I hadn't choosen the Ice Fluff.
I can imagine them looking really cool and very individual if you get the colour right (watch some NASA and movie pictures for this).

And it's a quite interesting environment, too:

What I planned to do with my MI was a form a company of elites known as the Hardcases. They go wherever command wants the bugs stopped dead, often sent into the worst situations possible, even jumping into the midst of swarms to plug a gap in MI lines.

Stationed on mars, they're uniformed in pattern breaker mars red camouflage. THe Hardcases consist of an exo battalion and pathfinders as backup.

Then there's my Helljumper cap trooper platoon, based on the specops infantry from Halo 2.

My bugs are alternating cyan, deep blue, and yellow highlights. My tiger warriors, and other special units will use that special color changing paint.

One of the main reasons why I'm glad Evo is coming out and that I reall like the new rules, is that I have a reason to keep and paint my two SST armies.

Out of curiosity. How do bugs see anyway? Ie how much use camoflage is against them?

Got me thinking that tunnels are likely dark. Arachnids can move there pretty much at will. Ergo no lights won't stop them from moving around. Ergo either they can "feel" the tunnel way or they see in dark as well as in light. This would mean camoflage isn't any use whatsoever against them...

Just a thought when I started to think what sort of camoflage would be good for tunnel fighting(I figured mix of dark browns, some almost black, would be good one). Then I thought are they of any use or could the MI just hop around in bright pink suits

Not that uselessness would likely prevent MI from using camoflage. Humans seems to have instinct need to use camoflage even when they aren't of use(based on number of people who insist painting epic titans in camoflage. What good is camoflage for walking titan taller than buildings . Except maybe if they camoflage titan to look like mountain  ).

I asume the MI could jump around in bright pink or purple suit it won't change anything - at least not at short distance.

Bugs seem to be able to feel air vibrations (tail fins) as well as ground vibrations. And they can home in squads by following their communication signals.

So camouflage doesn't matter that much - maybe some Hoppers patroling the skies will not recognize you, but the Warriors surely won't miss you.

To bugs camouflage won't probably matter, but the MI could still have a run in with other things (rebels, skinnies, forth, ...)

In one of those comics from Dark Horse they were using Mars Pattern camo (Insect touch - the story were we're told how Raszak lost his arm)

hmmm i must admit i like the Klendathu style for the bugs (but with more uniformity)

troops wellll im thinking except for the Pathfinders, ill just make em OD (army green or Olive Drab) i was thinking of putting some red and white flashing on their helmets like in the RPG pictures

And for the record, bugs see in Infra-red. Some no, camo wouldn't help, but you know the military.....
