Time to put an end to Video Game company speculation.

Matt, since you were kind enough to put the Corgi speculation to rest (regarding the mystery third party), maybe you could finally end this Video Game company speculation as well?

Yes or No, is the third party involved with the video games industry in any way, shape or form? Have they ever or will ever make video games?

Gentlemen,

I have lurked for a long time, mainly to see what happens with what was once an excellent idea which I'm afraid has been thoroughly mauled and discredited by a combination of bad luck and poor management.

I am posting purely to put a name out there which, if I was a betting man, I would wager my dear old grannie on- EA Games. Battlefield Evolution was basically an unlicenced tabletop version of EA's hugely popular Battlefield 2 (BF2). A deal with EA would tick all of the boxes- popular and stable franchise, huge and established consumer base, new emerging markets, expansion opportunities and deep pockets. Look at the recent and successful HALO Clix game. I highly suspect BE will follow a similar path.

With other BF titles available/in the pipeline, Mongoose would be in an ideal position to capitalise on these- Battlefield 2142 is an obvious choice to replace the ailing SST franchise for instance. Mongoose are now in a position where they lack the all important good will with many retailers and distributors- replacing SST with 2142 would make a lot of commercial sense, particularly by trumpeting the EA connection. Mongoose need to reassure it's trade customers, and it's consumers, that new product lines are not doomed to failure in the way of BE and SST. A deal with EA may be the ideal way of doing that...

Anyway, a few thoughts to ponder...

BK

Just to put a damper on Buzkashi's theory, in one of the previous messages from Matt:

If all the ducks are not in line by then, all is not lost - the outside company has several different. . . products. . . that are all closely linked and all fit into the BF Evo mould extremely well. Our talks with the outside company started along the lines of supporting them all anyway, linking them together within a single rules system (BF Evo) so players could mix and match as they saw fit. A lot of these products will be released next year anyway, so it would only delay things by perhaps 2-3 months.

So unless EA has started making products that can use the Evo ruleset, time to put the 'Computer Game Company' theory out to pasture.

There are multiple Battlefield games though...
Linking them all together so you could play Nazi's vs modern day or whatever would fit inside Matt's statement couldnt it?

:D Airfix/Humbrol etc would be really good too though.
20mm modern/ww2/historical. Could be a big money earner, especially if Mongooses only requirement is to provide a set of era specific rules which would fit inside the box on a folded piece of A3 :D

Ah theres no way of knowing though.... I think perhaps a software company makes the most sense.
... And sadly I think the poster who floated out the EA idea was spot on about the possibilityof SST being put to pasture.
Something like Battlefield 20whatever, or say Starcraft/Warcraft would be much more profitable :(

Yes but how does Software company = New and IMPROVED models?

I never said it would improve the models :D

I think we need to face it, BF:E and SST are dead in the water .
Almost anything other than more delays will improve the situation.
In addition Game and Game Station (Who I kinda suspect are the same company lol) are selling those Halo Clix toys, as well as Wow figures, anime junk... you get the idea.
A tie in to a computer game name opens up another vital market for the company (Because honestly? I dont think theres that many hobby retailers who haven't been burned by Mongoose miniature games right now...).

As for new improved figures? well Mongoose were moving the factory anyway weren't they? I dont honestly think you can improve the quality of prepaints without someone their end making random checks on the quality, said it before and I'll say it again :D

Yes, but again, the computer game tie in is just in people's heads, Max. Read the statement again. Unless you can pull a miniature from your PC, nix the speculation about an electronic gaming company.

But has he actually said miniatures in any of the statements? Hell he specifically said a company MUCH bigger than Mongoose and that nixes most miniature companies I would have thought.
All he's said there is some unnamed 'product', lots of which will see release in the next year.
Honestly I think people saying its a miniature company are just as far off the mark as the computer game crowd. Other than a fairly snazzy ruleset (Which could be quite legally plagurised/ripped off and modified) what would Mongoose have to offer a miniature company other than competition? Seems like bad business.
A diecast toy company makes some sense (Especially if they did contact corgi)....
But if it isnt a licensing deal (not that we really need another one of them...), I wonder what Mongoose plans to get out of it...

I don't care what the company does as long as we actually see something from it though

My understanding was that they were relocating production to a new site due to continued QC problems.
Have there been statements I've missed?
Because I really don't see how a deal with a miniature company is going to save the game, short of selling it to them ala that 10mm fantasy thing. And Im sure one of the statements said they wouldn't be doing that.

If it is a miniature company you kinda have to wonder who, because Mongoose purposefully chose a scale which wasnt compatible with anyone elses (Kinda like SST), other than Eureka I dont think any of the big companies stuff is even close (And once again thinking back on the statements Matt said the scale definatly wouldnt be changing and that all old models would be compatible).
Unless people are actually talking about diecast toys when they say miniatures (In which case I agree Forces of Valour is a pretty safe bet) I don't see who they think it could be.
Hell Milton Bradly makes more sense :D

... Added to all that its about 2 weeks since the NDA was meant to have worn off isnt it?

Nope, but it's easier to draw the miniature conclusion from the statement I posted on the previous page than a computer game producer.

Just a quick reminder:

A good key phrase here is "so players could mix and match as they say fit".

Im sorry but I think you're doing exactly what your accusing the video game camp of.
Pretty much anything could could fit the 'mix and match as they see fit', including minatures and software.
Added to that, noone has even suggested a likely minature company in the discussions thus far, Im not even coninced theres anyone who would be up for it (Especially since the only big company mini's company who doesnt have a prepaints game unvield details last week...).

Seriously when you consider the possibililties you see theres next to no minature companies that fit the bill, a couple of toy companies, one or two software companies and all the stuff noones even considered yet :D.
