dig the one of him with the gun and knife

I agree - I'm sure REH would've been a RPG gamer - and one hell of a GM!

Glad you like the photos Stygian Devout - it's cool to put a face to the name of one of the greatest influences to gaming and fantasy/sword & sorcery.

I was thinking the same of late, after reading Sword & Sorcerer. And wondering which RPG he would have chosen. Probably something fast-moving and rules-light, close to his prose.

The photos are exceptional, and a little sad.

so would have Robert! they would have e-mailed each other a lot and talked over their campaigns together!

But Robert in the end would been a one game system type of guy actually making his own game system with the best of all the game systems till he had what he wanted!

any of you ever read on Roberts life?

In 1930 Howard wrote a letter into Weird Tales Wright forwarded the letter to Lovecraft, who responded to Howard, and soon the two were engaged in correspondence that would last for the rest of Howard's life. Robert Howard quickly became a member of "The Lovecraft Circle," a group of writers and friends all linked to H.P. Lovecraft, who made it a point to introduce his many like-minded friends to each other and encourage them to share stories, utilize each other's invented fictional trappings, and help each other succeed in the pulp field.

Robert's nickname was "Two-Gun Bob" by virtue of his long explications to Lovecraft about the history of his beloved Southwest, and during those years he contributed several notable elements to Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos of horror stories.

Roberts Mythos stories include: "The Cairn on the Headland", "The Black Stone," "The Children of the Night"[13] and "The Fire of Asshurbanipal"). He also corresponded with other weird tale writers such as Clark Ashton Smith, August Derleth, and E. Hoffmann Price.

I am a tad Frustrated with the majority of people in Dallas, so sorry if I seem bitter or insulting to some people and their "southern Pride" , it is not due to my own origins born and raised Texan, but military for ten years and after returning home I find it disappointing to find some much damn Ignorants!

maybe it the same every where and I had not noticed issolated upon military Reservations, but with all the informations at our fingure tips and , still pepole want to aurgue the fundamental and totally inaccuracies of common myths and misconceptions of basic knowledge and history!

I HEAD SPOUT FROM A COLLEGE PROFESSIOR OF hISTORY Claim the accruacy and valitity of the Bibles record of yet to be proven wrong or falible, I nearly laught my self to tears.
I am not anti-Christians but even I understand all documentations limits and no matter the proof of the document its never or rarely 100% ACCURATE !

so I who work in Text book publishing < not as a editor> ( if you have not noticed) Find Fights of general public misinformation.

I enjoy gaming due it its social and integral association, I enjoy gamers because they are normally very informed if not very self or formally educated and possible more intelligent!

there are very few gamers here in Dallas.
what dose that tell me?
nof said , i step off box and quitly heel push it back under the Table-sorry to all
vent over!

Well...

I certainly know what you mean when you talk about joining the military and then coming home years later and not seeing things the same way or maybe even not liking what you see. ( USAF myself. ) Seeing friends go nowhere and do nothing with themselves for years while you are off in the service can be frustrating.

But that is everywhere. Especially if you are from somewhere rural. ( Like me. )

But ultimately I choose to believe, and I don't think it is much of a stretch, that there are stupid people everywhere... and that unfortunately, wherever you go, there are likely more of them than the other kind we are looking for.

The difference ( personal opinion disclaimer ) is that in larger cities people are more compartmented and oddly enough don't have to deal with one another as much as rural folk do. There is also southern/rural etiquette and whatnot, which you sound like you are familiar with, where you get to know people because they are there... -- Which means in a rural area you are more confronted by the stupidity that is present because you don't have the 'watering holes of the intelligensia' to retreat to.

Gamers in my experience are not so rare as we think, but we seem to have trouble connecting with each other. I've more than once found out after I'd been stationed somewhere for a couple of -years- that there was a group nearby that I had been clueless about all the while lamenting that 'there are no gamers here!'. I was wrong. I just hadn't found them... which is a shame. We as a community really should work on this, which is what I think the FLGS is really valuable for.

Make time to hang out at your FLGS on the weekend and just watch people. If you see someone perusing your favorite stack of books, go start a conversation. You might just find a group.

You might meet someone really strange with horrible BO that way as well. But hey... those are the breaks.

The Photograph Record of Robert E. Howard has been upgraded with High Definition scans of all the known REH photographs by REH scholars Patrice Louinet, Jim Keegan & Leo Grin. Patrice is sending them in as he finishes them - so far we have 13 or so. The differences b/w the HD scans and the old grainy black & white ones are truly impressive. Soon all the photos will be in HD - stop by and checkout the HD scans of REH (first 13 photos.)
