The perfect Conan gaming room...

So, I'm closing on a house next Friday and am getting an extra bedroom all to myself to use as a study/game room/whatever. I've been impressed with some rooms I've found online like this Cyberpunk fans game room. The blacklights and glow in the dark features in the room just oozes the style of the Cyberpunk 2020 game and it would be great to have something that does the same for Conan gaming. This gaming table looks cool but is probably a bit too labor intensive for me. This gaming table is probably more along the lines of what I'd want but it's frickin huge.

Then of course there's the decorating aspect of the room. I've got this Frazetta print framed.

Would also put up the map of the Thurian continent that came with the GM screen (inaccurate as it is).

as it's got the right mood for gaming in the Hyborian Age. Plus we drink lots of beer while playing. Now if only I could convince my girlfriend to get her friends to serve us in skimpy outfits.

Getting this sword to hang on a wall (most likely behind the GM spot)

is a no-brainer.

So, any of you guys out on the forum have some tips for making the most epic, badass, Conan gaming environment? What would you put in your room?

That's the highest resolution I could find it in. It's from the Age of Conan game, so it's possible it's in an art book or something.

Well, I have a poster of the original Conan movie, so that has to go up.

I would have an ipod player in the corner that can play the soundtracks from the first movie and the Age of Conan MMORPG on a constant loop.

I have a CD case that looks like an Egyptian sarcophagus, so that can add a Stygian flavor.

I would prefer a fireplace in the room so when it gets cool I can have a fire burning in the corner which I think add more atmosphere. (Of course in Austin, TX that means I could use it about 2 weeks out of the year.)

One thing I would really want is a Zamoran dancing girl to serve us beer from the far reaches of Europe.

Oh, good call! I had priced DLP projectors in the past but completely forgotten about them. I've comped up my own maps and have always regretted the amount of ink and paper used in them. A DLP projector would be waaaaaay more efficient, I think. Have to check the electrical consumption of a projecter over the course of a few hours.

Back in Wisconsin I used a DLP projector and an 8' screen on the wall. I use MapTools as my VTT, and it worked really well. Well, something happened to my projector between Wisconsin and Nevada and it isn't working correctly. We just got a 52" Ultravision plama TV, and the maps look fantastic on it! I love having a monitor of some kind just for general background images too, like a pictures that reflect the same environment that the party is traveling through. I've seen some wicked-cool setups with a DLP projector overhead using actual miniatures.

I also use background music and sound effects in my games, pumping them through a 6.1 surround system. I love using surround sound because you can have the volume much lower and still fill the room evenly with background music.

I never had a dedicated room for gaming, so I couldn't get crazy with decorations. Out here in Nevada, I could have a gaming room, so flatscan's thread here really has me thinking! 8)

Nah sweetie, Im old school, tholy screen n the room is the actual stand-up Arcade video game of ASTEROIDS,where the killedoff PCs would wile away their time.

Couple other ideas: Ronnie James Dio's album The Last in Line has a strong Egyptian theme and the music is awsome. And if you could get the cover blown up into a poster. This would definatly add to the flavor.

Also Iron Maiden's album Powerslave has a cool Egyptian theme with a couple of songs that would do good to pump any group up, including Ryme of the Ancient Mariner. Cover was also awsome.

Just my thoughts. :shock:

I do want surround sound in the room as well, though it may be out of budget for the immediate future as my girlfriend will demand the living room gets surround sound before my game room.

Yeah, that bar poster is definitely going in the room. Too bad they cropped the image for the poster though. That lovely dancers rump shouldn't be cut off! :evil:

BTW, I was considering making a table that utilized rear projection with a projector on the floor projecting up on a specially treated glass table top. This would have an advantage of eliminating the shadows from the minatures.

BUT, I just thought of a cool idea. If you have a projector above the table then you can construct blank 3D boxes to add an element of depth to the board. For example, stack a 2x2 box on a 4x4 box on a 6x6 box to make a small hill. You can project the terrain on top of it, and it should still look good.

I think for true dungeony adventures, the ability to just remove a mask layer in GIMP (or Photoshop) as the PCs wander around corners would be extremely useful. Further, you can cool looking tiles to add atmosphere.
