I started replying to a thread but changed my mind and decided to start a new one.
I've been thinking of putting pen to paper for a while now on a meta game, one to link other fantasy worlds. Players are in a Science Fiction world and are part of a galaxy spanning empire. The empire has shades of SpaceMaster(TM) and Traveller(TM) and maybe a dash of WH40k.
The back ground plot is that the Empire is aware (though not many of its citizens) that there are solar systems and planets that don't meet the normal rules for this universe. So the Empire has quarantined them (after several disasterous encounters). A few (Terran Standard) years ago one of these worlds was blotted out, the whole system has become a writhing blackness with disturbing radiation emissions. An armada was sent to watch from a very respectable distance and several unmanned drones sent to explore. After a few weeks two of the drones came back out, half mangled and some how alive and "screaming in pain". All the psions on board the amada lost consciousness and took several months of intensive therapy to heal. The admiral being worth of his ribbons, badges and finery did what any (!?!) PC would have done and blew them up at long range. He also continued to send balistic nukes into the explosion area for several days just "to make sure".
Things quietened down until 122 TSD (Terran Standard Days) ago another system dissapeared and fourty TSD after that the Empire was invaded! The trouble is no one knows quite what happened. The emperor (yeah yeah this is the WH40k dash) is the stongest Psion ever recorded and due to his powers had lived an increadable 280k TSD.

The aliens invaded his sanctum, destroyed his guard, tortured the Emperor and stole undislcosed artifacts from his person. The disturbing news couldn't be kept secret, it was too dramatic, to open and violent.
However several curious facts were kept hidden from the public and these clues have drawn some consternation from those investigating the "event".
1/ The types of radiation emitted from the aliens (though they were never actually observed themselves) had nothing to do with the mysterious black chaos.
2/ No psions were able to pentrate the interfence field, they reported that it felt like a psi defence but was completely different. One psi said it was bristling monochrome energy field, however still having the personality of a sentience behind it, not like a machine at all.
3/ There is conjecture around whether the Emporer was actually tortured at all, what where they doing for all that time?
4/ The Aeon Scepter (named for obvious reasons) was missing which should be impossible, a fake that the Emporer held on a day to day basis remainded but badly scorched.
"Welcome citizen, to your classified Xeno lesson 101. Today we will be introducing you to what little we know about LGSimul.001. This world is a bubble, a clear marble with a flat disc about 60 percent from the bottom. Under that, there has"..
Several of the avatars around the virtual table murmered to each other, their disquiet showing an alarming lack of discipline.
"...been no successful long range scans." The world orbits three suns, two at long distances and would seem like ever present stars. The other is a close Terran like sun that has some rather unsual orbitting arrangments." The lecturer paused to asses his audience.
An avatar coalessed to reveal a brown skinned "natural" terran, "We are going to pay it a visit then, to find Aeon?" She said with a smile.
And so the campaign would start, investigating a world for maybe a year of real world time. Working on finding out what is happening to the worlds with "Magic, magicka, Magyck and essaence flows". Some of the quarantined worlds are not magic based but most will be. The final wrap might involve the Empire reaquiring Magic and long lost gods or possibly attempting to purge all the Magic worlds, that would be up to the heroes.

The game is wide open for the creation of a whole bunch of new core line sourcebooks to follow on from Monsters of Legend and Arms of Legend.
Something on heroic abilities, and the creation of memorable NPCs at all levels from basic mooks through to mortal archenemies and rival adventurer parties (Heroes and NPCs Of Legend), a guide on the creation of ruins and design of adventures for GMs (Adventures and Ruins of Legend), a Legend version of the recently-launched Traveller Campaign Guide (Chronicles / Campaigns / Cycles / Sagas of Legend), and three items all essentially covering the same thing, only on the small, medium and grand scales - Factions of Legend, Empires of Legend and Worlds of Legend. Perhaps something akin to GURPS Illuminati or Shadowrun's "Spy Games" and "Conspiracy Theories," too, focusing on the design of secrets and mysteries, shifting loyalties and politics, conspiracies and power plays behind the scenes (Secrets and Mysteries of Legend) ...Who wants to start work writing on them?![]()
