The Dragons of Lencia

Thanks for a great book.

I'm a Swedish Lone Wolf fan and this book is on my top 5 list of all books I read.

Someone already pointed out that no character is holy, all can die, and I love that, that makes it so exciting to read battle.. will he/she die or not? if you see a Rambo movie you know he will not die.. even if there is 10000 enemies coming to him, but a hero in this book... you cannot be sure :)

I however always have problem with humans who help the dark side only because they get money, it doesn't make sense, if they help the dark side so much that the Dark side wins, no money will be needed and all in chaos and all other dead. If there is humans who are willing to help the dark side because they want money so much they must at least be sure the "good" side will win, else I see no logic.

cannot wait for the second book in this serie!!! thanks a lot!

Finished it yesterday. Loved it very much. However, I'm just a little bit disappointed that so many of the main characters are killed in this book. Most of these characters could have deserved IMO to live longer simply to see how their relations with other characters evolve through the events.

**SPOILER**

For example, the competition between White Fox and Stone Hawk through the events could have been more developped before WF gets killed. The relationship between Ranghor and Tyco was also an interesting one that should have been kept for the remainding books.

Other than that, that was a fun read and I hope that the next book, The Shadow & the Skull, gets published very soon.

Actually I thought John Grant did the Kai very well in the Legends series. I think he went overboard with the magical powers though, by making Vonotar so strong he then had to make Alyss so strong, but Banedon and the Magi too? Come on ...

As for Ulnar beating Vashna, I suppose he was wielding the Sword of the Sun - so perhaps Kai was with him?

As I say, I think he got the Kai right but the magicans were all a little too powerful for my tastes - Vonotar aside as that is the whole point of Vonotar after all.

My only concern with the current novels is the development of firearms. With the progress shown on land & sea with cannon, rate of progress should see the dwarves developing repeating rifles in about 40-50yrs which are accurate up to 300yrds.

Hmm interesting point. Of course there could be a Dark Ages which stunts growth, or perhaps the Dwarves all get killed. Or this being Magnamund, maybe nothing ever gets better in the end! I mean the Darklords and Bhanarians seem to have the best tech (with steam-guns and lasers) yet they aren't easy to come by elsewhere in Magnamund.

I loved this book. It was incredibly authentic and made everything seem so real. A few nice touches too, like following the life of a peasant as he's drafted into war really made you see the "human" side of things. Great characters, really well-written.

Bring on the next!

I felt there was a startling lack of description in the book. The two Telchoi are persued by an Agarashi, which is a thoroughly gripping chase, but never once are we told what the Agarashi looks like.

The female Kai (whose name eludes me) is never given a word of description.

That said, many of the characters are well written and the flow of events of the invasion is pretty dramatic. Some events niggled at me, but there were a couple of really, realy good sequences.

As for all the deaths, well I was a little disappointed, but then I realised this was just book one, and it gave the heroes something really bad to come back from. Which I'm looking forward to reading.

Perhaps the lack of description was on purpose to allow us to decide what they look like?

The Agarashi are all different, so I'm sure we can decide what that would look like!

SPOILERS

As for the female Kai, well she didn't last long, so you could imagine her as looking like ur ex! :D

I had a feeling no two Agarashi were alike. The female Kai lasted the whole book, was the love interest of a lead charactyer and presumably will be a motive for revenge in future books - it would have been nice to know a little more about how she looked.

I'm so waiting for the second book in this, can anyone tell the release date or how the progress is going?

I'm inviting you to read issue 17 of the Rising Sun which features an interview with Richard Ford. The actual interview was made back in winter 2008 but you'll get an idea of how the things were going at that time.

Thanks that was excellent reading :) how come I missed those :) as I said, cannot wait for the second book The Shadeow & The Skull... is the skulll the skull of the... cannot drop a spoiler here for those who didn't read the first book :)

I just got thru reading this novel yesterday and I must say I am VERY impressed with the book. It left me chomping at the bit wanting more... now I must wait for the 2nd book to be published :( . As the book progresses further, I must say... you can develop a REAL hatred for this Glenrath fella. I'm anticipating in one of the future books we are going to see both Glenrath and Cholis meet a rather unfortunate ending to their pathetic lives  ???

I just read the "Rising Sun" article link that was posted by someone in June. Richard Ford is no longer under contract with Mongoose? - Is that what I read... or was I misreading??? - If he isn't under contract, then how is the second book in the trilogy to be published. I'm sure I just misread something, but wouldn't mind some clarification from Mongoose on this please.

Also, that 'article' never really gave an updated expected release date (even a pessimistic release date would be welcomed). I want to find out what happens next is the series!!!!

Thanks for listening :!:

If you check correctly, this issue of the Rising Sun was published in August of last year (and the interview was conducted, IIRC, during the preceding winter), so a few things are out-of-date. Fordy could explain to you why he was able to write the novels even if he wasn't working inside Mongoose's offices.

I'm currently back in the Mongoose fold, working as a full time editor. However, whether I am employed at Mongoose or not, I am still contracted to complete the series. We're still working on getting the Lone Wolf gamebooks and novels into mainstream distribution - when that eventually happens you should see the remaining novels in the Lencian trilogy released in quick succession.

This was really good news :) I'm waiting for book 2! loved the first one.

I'll second that. I really enjoyed the gut-wrenching storyline and the knee-jerk reaction of, "The Bad Guys can't get away with this!"

The first book left me with a strong feeling of injustice, so I look forward to the next to set things strait.

But then again, as a Cener Druid, I look forward to Nyras conquering all and wouldn't be the least disappointed if it doesn't have a happy ending!

DEATH TO LENCIA !!!

Oh, I missed this announcement. Good to hear Fordy! :)

Sadly I didn't get to reading Dragons until September, so missed out on - as pointed out - how wrenching the ending is.

That said... it means I have a shorter time to wait until the next book.

So that's good!
