The Americas in the Hyborian Age

"The Unknown West" is really a good essay! I only disagree about "Marchers of Valhalla" to be locate after Conan's Age and Mayapan in the South America. But this essay of Dale Rippke is very good!

My players wound up going north of the Nordhiemers. They ran into a taiga like setting inhabited by Tlingit type North American Indians. Beyond that, they ran into the North American Inuit types in the tundra. I would have used European arctic peoples, but here in the US, there is just so much more info on the native peoples of America. The S&P article on the Sami came out too late. If you do your research (and there is plenty of material), you can come up with some good North American stuff. You'll have to work on the Shamanism angle. Also, plenty of monsters available in thier legends if you like to use that angle. The Tlingits were pretty warlike, even beat the Russians a few times when the landed.

I wrote the Saami article back in June of '06, but it took a while to get in print. Sorry.
For a northerly-climed Native American-type culture, I suppose someone could hotwire a fusion between the Picts and the Saami. The northern reaches of the Pictish Wilderness butt up against the southern extent of Vanaheim, IIRC, and any tribes up that far may have more resemblance to Native American groups in the Pacific Northwest area (Washington state, Oregon, British Columbia). Sadly I know very little about these tribes (Athapaskan???). Had Howard any access to George Catlin's marvelous journals on the plains tribes, he might have included a Hyborian version of them in his yarns. Oh, what might have been..... :)

Apocalypto really seems a good movie. I remeber I wrote, around two years ago, a tale called "A Última Trilogia" (The Last Trilogy), relating the last 23 years of Conan's life, in Mayapan. I hope someone here knows to read Portuguese. The text in the site http://cronicasdacimeria.blogspot.com/2006/05/ltima-trilogia.html
