the 2008 update book - ideas

I asked Matt about the Update book :

That is the intention. We will likely change the focus from a 'new fleets and ships' book to one concentrating on a camapign (like the 1e Earth-Minbari War). Happy to gauge people's thoughts on this - what would you like to see?

Good to hear - I would like (personally) a book with:

1. Rules updates and clarifications
2. A reworked Gaim fleet list
3. A cool campaign /background setting - both Katadder and Hiffano made excellent and interesting supplements which could be adpated/expanded if the Authors were agreeable to make them "official" (I'd love to see mine - but its more well, alternative than mainstream)
4. A few new ship variants

In a ideal world it would be like the big Forge world books ................in all respects from fluff to artwork

just my HO

anyone else ?

and i want to design ships in the future...i hope ACTA lives long enough for that.

how sayed...it lives trough the fans, it dies trough the fans

A reworked Abbai fleet would also be nice.

Then I would at last be able to use them instead to use them as paper weights.

Since there will be no more MGP assassin issues, maybe you can step up your casting to really professional...
Your ships are amazing by manual standard, but as you say, can't match those produced with computer designed casts...
TLT Vorchans Plz

i'd love to see all the rinkles worked out before anything new comes along. So a sorted giam and abbai fleet, a host of reworked ships, gvrahn, g quan, demos, psi corp mothership.
Then ships to fill gaps in the Vorlon and shadow fleet. A variant of two ships would be fine.

then a campaign sort the stuff out first though.

I just want rules updates and clarifications to the questions people have asked. Other than that, any campaign supplements would be nice and new/reworked fleet rules are always welcome.

Cheers, Gary

Clarified rules and more balanced ships I'd like to see first, before any new Campaign books or something like that.

Same here

D10 conversion?

Seriously... better campaign rules would be great. The campaign rules in ACTA have always been very basic, pick a target, roll d6 for scenario and d6 for PL. That is kind of shallow. Good rules for a strategic campaign like the one ID Gaming ran a while back. I don't really know how it worked, but it sounded great. Sort of a cross between Twilight Imperium and ACTA...

I second that. A campaign workover would be cool.
The current campaign is a bit basic, and it could do with some depth.

Their are a number of talented writers and ship designers on this forum who could easily help out with making an official campaign setting.

Campaign settings.

EA/Minbari war
Dilgar war
Narn/Centauri war
EA Civil War
Shadow War 1 and 2
EA/centauri war

most of which are covered be it 1st or second ed by fan made supplements. My vote would be the dilgar war, in theory it gives all the "lesser" races a boost, the EA have been done to death, and whilst they are involved in the Dilgar war, it should be about the league races quite a lot.

Id say that everything that should happen, has to be done by the community now. Since i dont believe a word about continous support actually...

well scenario wise, we've done it.
new ship wise (stats and models) We've done it
Campaign wise, their is a more complex campaign available if Wing commander wants to share it.

I think we do pretty well :-)

The Dilgar war could be good -especially since there is a fantastic fiction being written about to draw on - check it out in the B5 fiction section.

scenarios adn ships are there as well as personailities............. :D

I "thought" JMS had said no tothe fiction because it was a bit Naff?

A start could be Getting Rich Bax to update all his 1st ed stuff. Was some quality writing in there

its not the official stuff - its in the fan fiction section on the forum. Its very good with mutilple POV and shades of grey - reminds me of the excellent Michael Stackpole Battle tech novels. :)

I'd add to this generic space station and satellite rules and rules for the ships seen on screen/fill a hole in a fleet that haven't been released yet (e.g. Valen and Omicron). Just because there will be no models, this doesn't mean that there shouldn't be any game progress. In fact, I'd like to see the 2008 supplement progress as planned and have a campaign book as a separate book (that isn't compulsary but does stand alone). Then other campaign books can be released with variants as desired: E-M War; Last Great War; Drakh War; Narn War of Independence; Dilgar War; etc.

Agree with most of the requests from the first thread, there are some issues that could do with being ironed out before running ahead to campaign ideas (although they would be a great addition).
Part of me hopes that Mongoose might be willing to set up something similar to what happened to Bloodbowl when GW backed away from their specialist games section. The fan communitybeing so active contributed a vast amount to the continuation of the game, including an annual rules review where a handful of established players plus the original games design team discussed updates using the feedback from the community. Ultimately the designer kept control but got great feedback and the game went from strength to strength. You won't keep all the gamers on a forum happy but it meant the community felt involved in the evolution of the game and kept it alive. Maybe it wouldn't work in this instance but it might be worth a try to help iron ut a few evident issues. Then roll on the campaign info and extras.
