Telepath Abilities

First, hello to all of you :D

I am a french game master ;) and a fan of Bab 5 ;)

My question is about the telepathic abilities :

It is said Page 40 of the rulebook : "At 2nd level and every two level thereafter, he may select a new telepathic ability from chapter 5."

But i think there are a big problem :
If my player, is a P1 or a P2, which ability can he choose ? There are no one, he have not before....

Is there somewhere anyother abilities ?

Thanks for your help, and excuse me for my poor english ;)

That's the downside to a low P rating for a telepath, they don't get to use that many powers. However there are two options for the poor schmuck...

1. The character gets modified either by the Vorlons or whatever telepathic organization he works for (Psi-Corps for the humans for example).

2. I'm pretty sure there will be a Psi-Corps book coming out at some point, you should be able to use whatever new Psi powers they got in there for your character.

Either way the next time you run something you should suggest to your players that they go for the commercial teep level of P5, it'll give them more choices.

There's also an option listed in the Earth Force Fact Book for low P rated teeps - Black Fist or something like that?

They look like they could be fun :)

Yes, this is a problem.

Basically a low P-rated Telepath will end up getting bonus hitpoints instead of Telepathic powers, I guess their psionic energies being turned within instead of granting them additional powers.

There are options for low-level Telepaths, beyond GM fiat (such as Vorlon conditioning), is to move into a Telepathic Prestige Class - the ones open to low level Teeps is Black Ops Specialist, Black Fist, and Psi Experiment.

The latter (Psi Experiment) might be just the thing to boost your low P-rated Telepath but for at conciderable risk.

There is a major problem (IMHO) with this. Most prestige classes require that you be at least 6th level to take them (by way of feat and skill revel requiremements). That mean for a P1 or P2 going through 6 levels of Teep class with no benefit other than the hp! There are NO telepathic abilities to take and blam so you're stuck in this class waiting to get to 6th so you can become a Black Fist and someday walk through walls advancing in a class from which you are gaining little or no appreciacable benefit.

If someone opted to take a low P-rated telepath even after being told what they could and couldn't do then that player would have some reason to play a low power telepath. Now on the other hand if the player ran through character creation or the GM told any Psi players to pick up a D12 and either way wound up with a low rating, then the player would have to just roll with the punches.

Either way there are some characters that get created through either bad rolls or poor planning that have to wait for x levels until they can get to a prestige class and try to correct the situation. It happens all over D20 tie-ins.

One of our players, was a young girl, who when she was told about all the limitations of a PSI Corp teep, asked: "If you have the ability to read everyone's thought but can't, what's the fun in that?!"
