Mongoose
This'll be my last project upload until after the weekend. Hopefully by then I'll have more of my ISA fleet in. :)

The first mods I made were adding the two lower sensor extensions on the ship and reversing the direction of the rear fins so the weapons are firing outwards (which is the way they appear in the show, vs. how MGP's studio models look. I also received two Left lower fins, so I had to modify it to fit. Also, the wing-fins had the guns mounted in the wrong direction, so I clipped and rotated them to where the longer gun is on top on all the areas.

The paintjob is primer black (Duplicolor Sandable is the only way to go), blue-gray drybrush, light blue d/b, light purple inkwash, light dk. green inkwash, pearl white d/b, Kel's Magic Sauce Black wash, final pearl white d/b.

As always, comments welcome!

Agree the paint job and conversion work are top notch. Really wish I had the patience and the skill.

Cool base. How did you do it?

It's a standard MGP plastic base. The rod is brass rod, and I've inserted a metal rod into the base of the miniature that slides into the brass rod. It's removable for transport and incredibly sturdy!

The decal on the base was created in reverse image in Adobe Illustrator and printed onto DT 175 Clear Matte label paper. When applied to the bottom of the clear base, since the image is reversed, it appears correct and slightly magnified.

Nice job. I use a similar paint scheme. Though, I cover my brass rod with black primer as well as the base. It has a much better look on the game table. Really good work though.

I've thought about painting my rod black, too, sort of adding to the illusion of floating in space. However, painting the base black would sort of defeat the purpose of my decals. :)

Wow... I may start doing my bases differently...

Yeah, these bases require a little bit more work, and a little bit more in material costs, but are so much sturdier than their usual plastic counterparts, and allow for the easy removal of the ship from the base for transport. My only concern is that the model spins fairly freely on the stand, but I think that could be rectified by putting some yellow stuff up in the hole where it mounts.

My group uses brass rods for removable bases as well. We solved the problem of ships spinning freely by using square brass tubes. A little more effort to get setup correctly (we had to use a dremel to create a square hole in the base) but otherwise works great.

If you just use a fingernail file and round off the corners of the square rod that fits into the base you get the same thing.
It turns out that the holes on the smaller bases are the same size.

awesome looking ship!

a few little of things that would make it look better imo, i prefer a black base, that's personal so ignore that if it's not to your taste. i'd do something with the brass rod, black i think (this adds to the black base arguement  ). maybe you should have done the writing in white so it shows up against a black background? most tables you'll play on will hide your good work. the ship itself would really benefit from a watery black wash over the metalics, just enough to add a little definition.

look forward to seeing more.

I seriously have been considering painting the brass rod black, just so it disappears a bit more against a black table surface. The decals couldn't be printed in white as it takes a special kind of printer to print white and I didn't want to pay to have Kinko's do it. I did try other colors and ultimately found that even against black, the black text shows up better in all conditions. I use a matte, semi-opaque label paper which gives some contrast to the back of the decal making it stand out a little better, too.

The metallics do all have a black wash over them, but I have realized that I did my final pearl white drybrush after the wash, so maybe I need to reapply the metal and re-inkwash it.
