T20’s on Bundle of Holding- useful for a MG2 game?

MonkeyX

Cosmic Mongoose
I have no experience with T20’s but a lot (everything) has just hit bundle of holding and I was wondering if it would prove useful to my 2e game, most likely with setting stuff and aliens but possibly adventure ideas too. Does anyone here have any experience with this version? I’d also love to know where it fits in the timeline please?

The Travellers' Aide series was pretty good. When prepping adventures I usually check the vehicle supplements (On the Ground, Through the Waves, Against Gravity) for ideas on NPC or flavor vehicles, there are lots of options and tons of illustrations. I only stat them out for 2e if absolutely necessary but even then it doesn't take long.

The Gateway setting Martin wrote looks great. Very well written with lots of intriguing factions, astrography, and subplots. I have the physical book lying around somewhere. :D

For the read alone, it's worth it.

But the T20 books are set in the year 993, how much is still relevant 'today' for Mongoose Traveller players?

Define "relevant." Who's to say a given campaign has to be in the same era as another? If a referee is insistent on her/his Gateway campaign being in 1105, there's always travellermap for stat comparisons.

Hmm, "still existing"/"valid"/"canon"/etc. in 1105, maybe? You're right, adapting whatever you want for your campaign is easy, but I still would like to have that K'Kree/Gateway Sector book hinted by Matt in the State Of the Mongoose 2018 thread, not the old version of the same. Just my personal preference. :)

I would, too, actually, but I've heard there are some canonical conflicts or something of that nature. Martin posted about it here: http://forum.mongoosepublishing.com/viewtopic.php?f=89&t=121358&p=928941&hilit=gateway+mjd#p928941

Which makes me wonder: If Mongoose publishes a setting to use their newly updated K'kree material, what will it be? Gateway is kind of ideal in that it is human space but close enough to the Two Thousand Worlds to make it a viable locale for human-K'kree interaction. But if there's some kind of conflict regarding who owns the Gateway stats, I suppose that sector is out of the running. What would the alternative be? I really like Kaa G!'kul sector as it is the intersection of K'kree, Hiver, and human space, but the stats on travellermap are unofficial. I actually approached the reigning author of the sector about publishing a campaign sourcebook using his work, but he was resistant to the idea.

I know the story behind this. Essentially there's no canon conflict between GtD and the later MgT material and the one which is there is simply a minor correction of a conflict which snuck into GtD. But the entire Gateway Domain is an excellent area for campaigning. I believe the stats on Travellermap are actually official, I was part of the team who reviewed them, so perfectly usable, I'd love to see it redone for 1105, Ley sector has long been one of my favourites.
