Stats for an APC? with link to picture

Mongoose
Hello all,

I'm thinking about fielding APCs for my MI but I'm (not totaly) at a loss for a stat-line.

I was thinking about two options to solve my problem:
either looking at BFevo or
either looking at our air assets.

The most difficult part is handling the point cost, which should be less than a Tanker because they should be easier to destroy.
We actually still use the existing armybooks for force creation and not the SST evo ones.

I thought of this:

size 4
move 7"
CC 4xD10
Target 7+
Save 3+
Kill 11+
Hits/4

Bought an APC from GZG and man, it suits my MI perfectly well.
On the fluff side it has 3 crew and place for an 8 men strong squad.

It mounts two sixguns and that's it.

I was thinking of something between 200 or 225 points for this APC which I still have to name.

So what would you change, keep, add or do different?
Let me know.

Thank you

S

Looks good. I've been thinking about doing the same.

You might suggest reducing the 7" movement to 5 " or 6" and then add the Wheels/x" or Tracks/x" trait to this vehicle to give it a longer move than the base and allow it to fire the sixguns at any point in the move.

It depends on the armor of the APC but I might go with 10+, keep the hits/4 and also add retaliate. The 3+ save is pretty good too. It all depends on how you envision the APC in the game- tough and slow, fragile and fast, or something else.

For points you might consider having it somewhere at or even below 200 points for an unarmed variant and then add in various weapon costs like on a reliant platform.

For comparison, someone had also created a Space Marine list with stats for vehicles some time ago. The word document didn't list a name other than "Torben" in the file properties, so unfortunately I can't give the author the proper credit at this time. The Rhino statline was:

Value Size Move CC Target Save Kill Traits
250 4 6” D6+1 7+ 4+ 11+ Hits/4
Independent
Tracked/8”
armed with a turret mounted storm bolter

Thank you for the comments,

I envision it as being at least as fast as a warrior bug but with enough armour without getting too high (and that's only because I would like to include some sort of tank in the future).
But I think you're right, I could use a trait like Wheels/10" for instance and giving them a base move of 5".
I like that idea.

As for the target and kill values I first thought about giving Target 6+, but that means a Morita would be able to inflict some damage to it and somehow a vehicle that's going to get close to enemy fire and/or claws should have a minimum of armour to be able to withstand the basic armament.
That's why I went for 7+
Not too much hits because heavy weapons should be able to deal quite efficiently with such a vehicle to my poor MI's chagrin.

When getting wrecked on the table, I'm thinking about allowing the crew to maybe be able to crawl out of it and play on further on the table also (just take the models you're using for your platoon (PAMI if in a PAMI platoon) armed with their basic weapon (altough if the APC is destroyed by a swarm of warriors, they have zero chance of getting out alive either way ; ) )

So here's what I'm thinking of:

ARMADILLO APC

Cost: 200
Size: 4
Move: 5"
CC: 4xD10
Target: 7+
Save: 3+
Kill: 11+

Hits/4
Wheeled/10"

Weapons: 2x Sixgun

Crew: 3 MI
Cargo: Up to 8 size 1 models

Priority level 2: 1 squad can choose an Armadillo APC for 200 points
Priority level 3: any squad can choose an Armadillo APC for 200 points

Keep on giving some input

Hmmm, I don't know about heavier weaponry.

You could have a point there though.

But then again once the basic stat-line has been found, we could virtualy upgrade them with whatever weaponry we'd like given you pay the cost for it.

There's a model on GZG with exactly the kind of Missile Array that could be fitted to the vehicle.
But I don't have it... yet.

I'm going to playtest the Armadillo tomorrow night.

We'll see what happens.

Could we see some pics of the APC and some MI? Or is it not painted up yet? :) , you don't mind if I borrow those stats and such for when I get around to making my own APC?

Also, I remember hiromoon's Gecko APC. Now that was really cool, once I was gonna build it, but only got as far as to make a part of the crew compartment.

Believe it or not, but I'm probably one of the few that doesn't own a digital camera.
I'm awaiting my brother-in-law to do some good quality pictures (though it could be the worst for my figs)

I'm painting it up and should be finished in about 1/2 an hour.

Size comparison is on the spot (I was afraid it wouldn't because on the GZG website the range is in 25 mm).

And if the missus permits I'll be ordering some more pretty fast.

Once I get my hands on some pics I promise I'll post them.

What do you think of the stats?
And the name I gave it?

Looks pretty cool. Armadillo is actually a pretty good name for an APC I think. I'll play around with the stats at some point, oh and look for those stats and such I had for Hiro's gecko :) . Uhh, which APC did you buy? I might have a look into it on GZG.

name sounds pretty good.
i don't have anything in regards to the game and i don't know how to play it (yet) so i can't really comment on the stats.

It's labeled as SF25-86 Phalanx 6-wheeled heavy APC with twin multi-lens laser turret on page 21 of their full catalogue.

I remember the Gecko.
I'll try to find its stats Hiro made some time ago.

I also bought the SF25-42 M37 Light 6-wheeled APC, it's much smaller and I would like to use it as a fast recon vehicle with 2 crew.
Am looking for a name and some stats also.
Once I get to wrap this up more or less, I'll post it in another thread.

Just finished my camo on the Armadillo.

Anything else is for later.
Off to sleep now.

Thank you for the feed-back until now.

I know this design is meant for the original SST, but anyone looking for something similar for SST:Evo could use the PLA WZ-551 IFV and the EFTF Warrior as guidelines. Simply swap out the two sixguns for the MGs it normally mounts and you have a good baseline to work from.

These are all good ideas. Remember my "mini-Gecko"? I forget which S&P it was in, but my unofficial stats might add yet more things for comparison.

I thought I saw the stats for the Gecko, but it seems I may have been wrong (this happens much too often)

Has anyone access to those stats please?

Here it is guys,

the Armadillo APC assigned to Haldeman's Dust Devils

http://s243.photobucket.com/albums/ff119/Human_Target_photos/?action=view&current=sergeverkenner003.jpg

I gave it this profile:

Points 200

Size 4
Move 5"
CC 4xD10
Target 7+
Save 3+
Kill 11+

Hits/4
Wheeled/10"
Crew/3

Weapons:

The Armadillo APC mounts 2 sixguns rotary cannons (360°)

The crew carry Morita Assault Rifles

Transporting Troops: you can mount 8 size 1 models into the Armadillo APC

Emergency Combat Ejection: when using the Wheeled/10" special move, you can opt to eject the mounted troops. To do this you can place the squad anywhere within 6" of the path of the Armadillo APC.
If you opt to do this, the squad only has 1 action left on its turn.

That's it for now.
Let me know what you think of it.

Looks good, how do the MI fit inside?

I personally would go a different way for a futuristic APC(seen to much of the very recent scifi games and such that's being done). I can't bother to try the stats or anything right now, as I've packed all my miniatures and such before I move :? , ugg I hate moving...

But all in all, good job, I also liked the chickenhawk's paint scheme. :)

I just finished moving. It was Hell I tell you. Hell.

Well, it's not realy finished at the moment.
Still need to add some details.
Like numbers on the troop compartment doors (there are 8)

About that Chickenhawk: you'll notice I placed those utility arms in a different way also.
I think the Chickenhawk gets more treathening that way.

It's nice to hear somebody likes the paint scheme (while it's a pretty lazy one :D )

Not bad, but I have to admit that the "Emergency Combat Ejection" sounds very Power Ranger-ish to me. Images of the roof popping open and the troops flying out of the top...

Other than that, looks good.
