Mongoose
just been reading the mongoose release details.

number of things sound promising (especially the possibility of a 6mm version in the future :) 8) )
looks like they have decided to go with a "2nd ed" version rather than a new system :?
the other bit of good news is the talk of Vikings and other air assets.
fingers crossed this is going to be good news to all SST players.

what are other peoples thoughts?

I am so glad I checked the forum today....

Insanely glad.

The fact Mongoose seem to be taking a proactive - agressive - line to solving their problems is very exciting, and indeed the news that Summer 08 will be filled with the roar of landers is even better news.

The idea of 2nd Ed is fantastic, getting rid of Evo and thinking 'this is good... lets just revise' is common sense than making a 100% new game...

With new units rolling out and promises to make this a game for the gamers...

I shall dust off my SST, shout to the new uni wargames society and cheer to teh heavens if this comes out on time ;)

I'm relieved to see something promised closer to the original rules rather than a complete rewrite. The detailed facets of SST are what I enjoy most about the game, things like Tunnel Assets, Air Phase, Reactions, Out of Ammo, Abilities and Psychic Talents.

Im a bit narkedd that a great game was plunged into development hell for all this time, for nothing... A hell of alot of momentums been lost, imagine where this game could have been by now if there was a secound edition out when Evo was originally pegged for?
And I feel bad that Mongoose bought into the prepaint hype and got its fingers burned, I do still wonder what that was all based on though :P
I really hope they havent forgotten all the problems they had with US casting, and that they've sorted out the mispackaging that plagued the system.
I wish they'd release the names of their sculptors this time round too, or failing that actually send greens back to be finished/redone when they're naff.
Finally on my wish list, I wish Mongoose all the best luck actually getting this thing out for the summer so they can have the GenCon unveiling they deserve!
(Um.... thats a lie, I also hope that they get Andy Chambers back on, even if its just to write a foreword, I think people sometimes forget what a big draw it was having him connected to the game!)

But those are all bridges which need to be crossed sometime next year.
Right now I need to worry about getting enough cash together to buy the stuff I need before its pulled from sale :D
(Im glad the announcements finally been made though, its pretty much what everyone on here wanted [Appart from Paladin, I think he was the oly person who liked SST Evo pmsl :D], and even if its a little late things can only get better from here on in!)

Damn straight! :D
I think it definatly helps draw in post GW players, but it certainly doesnt hurt that he can come up with gems like SST lol.

Well, it wasn't for nothing - as I alluded in the address, there was some _big_ issues in Hollywood revolving around SST, and we got caught up in the audit, which also killed all development at the time.

Well, with SST:3 Marauder currently in Filming...

I'm hoping SST:3 is released to movie theaters and not straight to DVD. A successful full theater release tied in with a successful relaunch of the SST game would be the perfect storm.

Andy Chambers isn't just a marketing factor, he's a good game designer :P

Andy Chambers is employed by Blizzard Entertainment in the role of Creative Director, he has apparently turned his back on miniature games for the forseeable future.

I'm actually more relieved tbh . . . . .

This sounds good to me. For one thing, it seems less likely that my current and hypothetical army lists will lose their viability. At least, I hope that's the case. When you put all that time/effort/money into a company level force with supporting assets...

Now, bring on the TAC fighters!!!! We have the FLP, I may finally get to make my dream of an all-fleet force a reality. (Yes, I know you have to ignore a few rules in force composition, but I don't care!)
