Starting a campaign. Ideas ?

so, glorantha 2nd age.

So far, the party is: An alchemist from Fronela, a barbarian explorer (propably orlanthi or somewhere in prax), and a Jrusteli courtier.

There'll be one, possibly two more characters. Not sure what they will be.

Now, just to find ideas to start them off with :) Need to determine how political and how action'y my players want to get.

What ideas do you have for good starting adventures and very simple things to really emphasize and introduce glorantha to newbies ?

Have a look in Signs & Portents and see if the characters are up to 'Raven in the Roost' - it will certainly figure in the campaign I am going to run, but not for a little while. This is because I am limiting the character starting levels a smidgeon, and want to see how the abilities work out before commiting them to this scenario.

P.S. the campaign description in this post, answers part of the implicit question in my response to your post on what to get first.

Ideas:
- the courtier's patron needs money for some glorious scheme. The courtier must investigate a minor subcult of a trade god or a solar god, wich claims to be able to change lead in gold.
- the alchemist and the barbarian are enlisted for expertise and guiding.

Themes:
- the courtier discovers that the subcult is already engaged with another faction of the Jrusteli. He must choose between saying the truth to his patron and risking new ennemies, or lying about the capacity of the subcult and betray his patron.
- the alchemist must choose between engaging in pagan ceremonies to learn something about the subcult's secret, or maintaining his spiritual integrity.
- the barbarian discovers similitudes between the subcult's creeds and his own's. Will he warn the subcult's priest or take a little more gold ?

Actions:
- trying to spy on a ceremony, with risk of discovery.
- investigate the mine of lead.
- attack by the other Jrusteli faction.

This is by no mean simple, as you have a lot of writing to do (especially the subcult). But important Gloranthan themes are there, like abuse of theism by Godlearners, contempt for other cultures, greed, antagonism between factions, the reality of myth and the risk for your soul of interacting with another magic. The scenario can be set on the Janube valley, with some exploration.

I ran Raven in the Roost last week, I changed the bad guy muscle to Trolls and trolkin. My players had fought Broo twice already (in Rune of Chaos and then later in a spin off scenario). Also I set in in Glorantha, its now a day and half North of Fiesive. Having trolkin in the initial bad guy action, seemed to make more sense as they are weak. But to make up for it, it was dark so the PCs has -40% to do stuff as they didn't grab torches. Then later on two big Dark Trolls gave the players a tough time, the villan got to escape so I get him to the whole reacuring thing.

One thing to note if doing this in 2nd Age Gloratha is that some of descriptions mention the moon, which does not show itself too often.
