Stargate SG-1/Atlantis/Universe license...

I think Stargate RPG for Traveller would be an excellent new scenario. I'd like to suggest a few supplements:

- Universe of Stargate (information and rules for 3 series (SG-1. SGA and the new SGU).

- Stargate Command (a sourcebook for campaigns for SGC members, based on SG-1).

- Atlantis (a sourcebook for Atlantis Team and the Pegasus Galaxy).

- The System Lords (a soucebook for The Goa'Uld System Lords, and information adn details about theis technology, starships and culture).

SGU hopefully will survive and do well, BUT I have grave misgivings about it. It is NOT SG-1 or SGA, it is Darker and Character driven much like the BSG Mello-Drama.

And this is why I'm loving every minute of it :).

No so much true SciFi and Plot driven.

Not "true scifi"?! Either you missed the latest ep (Darkness) or you're confusing the show with something else! ;)

Well they will do anything to milk more money from the fans that are pissed off about cancelling SG-1 and SGA...for SGU that looks like it is going to suck real bad. I loved the first two shows but to make a show like BSG out of SG proven record was stupid. They pissed off all the fans and I bet you that the show will not make it through it's second season.

Sounds like "new show bitterness" to me.

There's only so far you can go by repeating the same formula over and over. SGU is different, but IMO it's different in a very good way (not that SG1 or SGA were bad though).

I know there is a lot of interest in a StarGate license to go to Mongoose, but it seems Sony (owner of MGM) doesn't want that.

When Sony bought MGM, the put out a call for bids on the RPG license, which AEG held at the time. AEG bid, Eden studios bid again (they lost to AEG the first time the license was offered), as well as other companies.

No one got the license, and AEG lost theirs just as the book for Season 3 was scheduled to ship.

So if someone can get Sony to loosen up on the license there would be hope.

I was a rep for AEG at the time and in email conversations with both the head of AEG's customer service as well as the owner of Eden studios at the time this all went on.

LoL, this from someone who uses a pic of the SGU's Resident Ego Powered Genius Scientist as his avatar on the SFRPG forums....

Actually the show is "ok" although the premise is a huge stretch of a story.

Do you have to take everything I write and turn it into something personal against me? Or do you think you're capable of reining in your vendetta and not derailing threads whenever you see a post by me? I think everyone's getting pretty tired of your antics by now.

SGU is to me a bit like the first season of SG1 - having a bit of trouble finding its feet.

The one thing I feel it is missing is a enemy - whilst it seems to be going down the BSG route - there is not the tension and supsense that this series had from the very start.

It also suffers from having to crowbar the Stargate idea into the show to maintain the fanchise - ie having nebulous ships ahead of the explorer ship :? building gates here there and everywhere when the main ship presumably has pefectly go rings and shuttles..........

I will however be interested to see where it goes.........

SGU is OK so far. It's not quite up to par with either SG or SGA yet in my opinion, but with some time it could be interesting. A couple of the characters are starting to grow on me a bit, but I could do with less (read none) of LDP.
