Stargate SG-1/Atlantis/Universe license...

Mongoose
You fine folks at Mongoose ever consider trying for the license to produce Stargate based RPG books? Alderac Entertainment tried and produced some good books but Sony decided not to renew their license some years ago. The Stargate universe has got lots of untapped potential for a gamer series. Just wondering... :D

Insert standard rant about potential new version of preexisting game using different ruleset yadda yadda yadda

Would it? Stargate was d20 wasn't it? And d20 is still OGL...

Stargate was one of the better D20 based games, actually a Traveller based version would be very easy to do as the PC's/NPC's are mainly human'ish and so could be covered by the base ruleset - even a 4th D&D version using the Wraith Recon chargen system would work just as well.

All of the background fluff is not relavent to the core mechanics of any system that you would use - eg a Stargate doesnt need a sub set of rules to use it.

We have done - however, we don't just do licences that we believe will sell well, we need to be passionate about them too. And there is no one in Mongoose right now dippy about Stargate :)

Ah, scratch that one from ACTA's possible replacement license list then

Funny thing Burger, I was indeed hoping for the same thing.
A Stargate based ActA game would be very good IMO. I really hoped for that one... :(
The fan based version was very nice!

Using the Traveller system would be very easy to do in a rough format.

Chargen uses upto a TL-8 base with higher based on contacts, Merc would be helpful here IMO.

Alien weapons could be as simple as, Zap (or what there called) at laser pistol damage that bypasses TL-8 armours and Staff weapons at laser rifle damage (maybe add a few extra dice to pump them up a tad).

Shame, there is lot of material that could be used to make a great RPG series.

Hmm, Star Wars (I know - not possible) Galactica or Star Trek for me...

I'm crossing my fingers for Mass Effect :D
Star Wars, BSG, Farscape or Trek wouldn't really inspire me enough to get into it, although I like the programmes/films, I don't think they'd hold my interest as a game.

What is Mass Effect? :?:

Damm - I was hoping for Stargate as well.

other possibilities

Star Trek - Yawn
Star Wars - Nah
BSG - Would be ok, apart from the fact only two sides.
Farscape - possibly Ok, plenty of factions, don't really know the series that well which probably rates my interest.

Starting to look slightly iffy that I will be playing CTA third edition.

Stargate was based on a Spycraft 1.5ish system (somewhere between Spycraft 1.0 and 2.0) which in turn was absxed off of 3rd Edition d20, yes.

Mass effect would be good, the codex in the game gives good descriptions about how space battles are fought & various race tactics

Hey Mongoose staff,

Sounds like it is time to 'expand' your staff and add a few more new creative folks to write/run with Stargate and BSG.
