Special Action "Opt Turn"

Morakas

Mongoose
Our group has been using a special action I created and the group really likes it so I thought I'd pass it along. The boresight players really love this.

Special Action: Opt Turn. CQ automatic. A ship that has a turn avaible after its movement is done can turn after all ship movement is done. The turn is done before auxillery craft move. In the case of both players having Opt Turns avaible players will take turns performing their turns in initiative order with the player who won initiative determing who starts.

Currently we are not allowing ships that used SM movement during movement to perform Opt Turn. We are debating changeing the CQ from automatic to a test of 7 or 8.

not really keen on that to be honest, you make extra affort to avoid a boresight, possibly loosing your own main target, then the ship just turns and gets you anyway, too much guesswork in it for my liking,

I like it, but I would say that if you atempt it and fail you can't turn (or loose 1 turn I am not sure, but feel lossing all turns keeps it risky) during your movement phase, and it requires a CQ check of 8.

This will make it a risky choice for boresight players, with military crews being able to pull it off 50/50 and even elite crews being able to mess it up.

Having it as an automatic just makes boresight fairly pointless.

personally like it, in reality all the ships would be moving at the same time so they would always be trying to react to another ships movement, but as it is at the end of the turn the ship would have less time to react so would only be able to make a half-turn (22.5*) to try to get another ship in arc

Half turns would be really messy to try and figure out....

There was another idea that could help a lot, it came up on don’t remember when. A special action “lock on target” CQ8 that gives the ship an extra 45º turn at the end of the movement fase, to get a boresight.

You declare a target ship and roll for CQ if passed move your ship normaly, when the target enemy ship moves you immediately turn your ship to try la boresigth; with the restriction that you can only fire at the declared target ship.

If the target ship moves beyond your extra turn arc, then sorry lost your target and can’t fire at other targets.

Arcadia.

Why not do that if the base (and not neccessarily the base stem) fell under the boresight line? THAN you can "Lock on Target"...

Just throwing it out there...

As for the rule in the first post... I'm not a big fan. I think it makes all the maneuvering and initiative sinking up to that point a waste.

i know but i think that letting a ship use a full 45* turn at the end of its movement phase is too powerful.
anyhow its not too hard get a protractor and measure 22.5* (if you dont have a protractor then just turn half what you usually turn) :)
