Spec Ops

Hi,

Can you tell us a bit more about the Spec Ops version of Modern Combat?

I suppose if weapon system is more detailed then there might be less combatants (at least in one side).

How compatable this is with Modern Combat? I mean is it possible to pit those Spec Ops minis against larger force and handle the larger force with the same speed as in normal Modern Combat game or how things work?

Oh, and when this is about to get out? During the coming summer, perhaps?

Thanks in advance.

Spec Ops is designed for a small number of figures - as little as a fire team of four, perhaps as much as a platoon in a _really_ big game. However, everything that appears in Spec ops will also be statted out for Modern Combat, so you can switch between the two.

No solid release date set yet, though development is well under way.

Okay, thanks for the answer. Looks like this is well suited for CT style scenarios and for us who have only limited amount of minis.

I am really waiting for more news as the development progresses.

Limited amount of mini's? With the lines Caesar and others have put out recently you can get 40 Marines (or other troop type of your fancy, except for PLA!)for less than $10! No reason not to have a horde by now...

just kidding... I'm just excited because now I can finally get those stinger troops for my US forces. I'll be ordering them from my LGS today or tomorrow. I've already got the "Urban Resisters" and the "Modern US Desert" troops.

Actually I have only pretty reliable supply of Revell miniatures. I know that there is a shop somewhere here that sells other suppliers' minis. My main problem is that I don't have other than US, UK and German minis but nothing to use as OpFor.

Well, of course I can use proxies but it's not the same thing...

This will be a really nice addition to the line. If it is completely integrated into Modern Combat, it would add tremendous game flexibility to the system - you could have a small team-oriented game or a larger unit-based game, all using the same rules. A big plus for selling the system to a dubious market. I'll be keeping my eyes out for it!

I would say that if the points are fully compatible with Modern Combat then you _could_ have a pile of cannon fodder, AKA "Movie Extras", guarding a target that the spec ops are out to destroy, etc.

I would still think that in a large game the spec ops would get annihilated v. a large enemy in the field. Just like in real life, they don't assault a hill with four green berets just b/c they're "elite".

So maybe you would add them as a "5th column" in a large field battle, where the regulars are fighting each other while the specs infiltrate and take on a key target.

One other thought - is this going to be similar in rules construction (and teams/gangs campaigning) as GMC-1? Always loved that game.

Since it was the skirmish team version of SST, I figure it's the natural upgrade for those rules.

No reason to come up with a new thread when an old one will do :)

I have two questions about Spec Ops.

1) Are minis still pretty much killed with one hit as in BFE? Or can they be wounded etc.?

2) Is it possible for different minis in a unit to make different kinds of actions? For example one mini is calling for air strike while others are firing.

Thanks in advance!

Actually, these are good questions and I'd like to know, also! One thing you could do is have much smaller units, but to me it'd be logical to have all spec ops guys able to perform a different task during a ready action, altho I think they should all be performing the same action.

And I don't see any reason why they couldn't have two hits or something - represents toughness, grit, etc.
