Some thoughts on Scale

Effectively 1st edition had three scales;

Personal in which damage to hits are equal.

Vehicle in which 3 points of damage equaled one hit.

And Starship which worked out to 40 points of damage equaling a hit.

In both the Vehicle and Starship Scales hits are “critical hits” in that they do damage to a specific function/sub-system and/or damage to said vehicles hit points in the form of Hull/structure hits.

Also note that People had a average number of hits of a around 21, vehicles hits worked out to 1 per ½ dTon of size and Starships had 1 per 25 dTons of size

Largely this system worked. Heck it looks like it would work with the new critical tables.

Except for the 6+ effect roll required......

In the combat discussion I found a discussion about ditching the 6+ Effect bit and having criticals occur at a set interval of damage. I Like this, now we just have to set the interval.

I propose then that we retain the 1st edition damage to hits charts for Vehicles and Starships as they both have internal scaling that doesn't require in game mathematics beyond a chart look up.

Couple this with the conversion of all weapons with a damage of 10d+ to the destructive scale.
