Skilled Captain Skill Questions

Hi Guys

Having a debate about the Skilled Captain trait which says once per battle the ships with it can use two special actions. At first I thought ace I can fire overloaded torps and reload torps in the same turn but the the Reload Special specifically states you cannot fire and reload a weapon in the same turn, so we accepted that combination can't be put together.

However my counterpart has made a challenge that we cannot combine two special actions if they require powerdrain, on the basis of where does the ship get the power.

So what is the common approach to using the Skilled Capt action?
 
I'd just ignore the Power Drain on one of the 2 actions if you chose two of them with that penalty, and just take it as the captain knowing how to push his ship and crew in an emergency (a "heroic moment" if you like), since it's once per game only.
 
I would say you would have to take two power drains. So Phasers Only and One weapon system, or Move slow and Phasers only, etc.

As such you could overload and Boost Shield or other combos which would be very convenient.

You have to select two power drain penalties, there's nothing stopping you doing that (what you cannot do is say I have two power drains I'll select penalty X for both) - it was actually asked here and Matt gave that answer.

It does limit you quite heavily - you either move 6" max and fire phasers only, or move 6" and fire a single weapon, or if you need to move a lot you are forced to fire only a single phaser bank. So thats where the energy comes from.

So you could overload and boost shields that turn, but you are not closing on the enemy much and you are only firing the heavy weapons, so no defensive fire either....
