Show me your sophonts

I’m just curious: have any of you created your own sophonts? I’d like to see them.
Not in Traveller, but as a science fiction writer, I made a race based on pigs. Gtandans. Short sighted, good sense of smell. 6-7 feet tall. Tougher than they look.

I wrote them for a couple of short stories in Chris Kennedy and Mark Wandrey’s Four Horseman Universe but I could import them into Traveller easily enough. Things to ponder.

Thanks for the prompt.

I just made an amphibious sophont that is like a walking nautilus with tentacle arms, flippers, eyestalks, and two legs. They have a knack for memorization.

They are born neuter but, upon reaching adulthood, they molt and their gender is assigned at that point, based on several factors (genetic and environmental). Females are stronger while males are smaller and more dexterous (males gain a fourth tentacle on their arm that is used to donate sperm but acts as an extra finger).

TL12 but on the verge of 13. They come from a dry world with a thin atmosphere. They developed intelligence as a result of pressure caused by variable ephemeral pools on their planet’s surface and the need to artificially create wetter environments.

They currently rule a polity consisting of 26 other worlds.

Ooh, I like the idea of Ancients-elevated pigs. Maybe we don't see them much because they hide, because they taste so good and K'Kree use them to bait traps for carnivores.

Actually, goats are popular.

Wolves, dolphins, and orca get all the attention, but pigs deserve a fair shot!
Also apes and bears.

I agree, Terry - pigs are definitely high on the upliftable species list.

But maybe they were concerned about the possible political consequences, informed by the historical documents...
