Ship Sizes Argh!

Two argumants for the larger sizes of ships.

The first is that we SEE the ships next to the station. We know exactly how big the station is and these ships are huge. Clearly the resources to make these ships are enormous, but that is why you have colonies, so you can exploit them and "bleed them dry with Earth taxes" as Markus put it.

The second argument for size is that these ships are typically carrying large fighter wings. You need hanger space, stores, repair bays, launch mechanisms, etc. All this must be stored in the forward area of the Omega, and these are not small ships either. The area will be much larger than on an ocean going carrier because of all the extra equipment and space needed to keep the pressurized areas separate from the vacuum of space and the fact that the launch and recovery areas are internal, rather than up on the deck.
