Ship Design Philosophy

It was fast wartime construction, so welding individual standard modular decks together seems time saving and logical.

Outside the fact it's never been repeated in other designs, and to reiterate my take on it, it gives off a Star Trekkish feel, allowing encounters and conversations in the elevator.

As regards the new iteration of the Azhanti deckplans, I think it's a mistake.
More of a correction. It was never really supposed to have a vertical orientation.
Just curious, you have said this a few times. Why was the original product sold that way then? And is there a source for this or is it just an opinion?

Note: I am not saying you are wrong, rather it is just I had never heard this until you saying it a few times on this forum. So I am real curious. :D

Started out with an email about the orientation of the original plans which didn't match the profile of the ship and got told it was never meant to be a tail sitter. It was speculated it might have been done that way to make the maps smaller. Suppose it could be an opinion but not specifically mine.

That would make sense. The 11x17 sized sheets would be cheaper to manufacture that large poster sized sheets. In any case, it is one of my prized Traveller items so I do still like the old girl. But I also know times change and things morph and change over time.

Who said that it was "never meant to be a tail sitter"? MWM? Either way the grognards on CotI are going mental over it.

It wasn't MWM, but it was a recognized name.

And this is a big secret because...?

The CotI mob are going nuts over it because it apparently proves that Mongoose don't care about the 3I or canon or whatever. If someone were to say "actually, this person who is in a position to say what's canonical or not said that it's not a tail-sitter and never should have been" then perhaps that would put them in their place.

(me, I don't care at all what orientation the decks are).

It's not, but I'm not dragging anyone else into it.

Then maybe you can ask them to go over there and tell them what happened and why the change was made? Though it's not as if that crowd needs any more reasons to attack Mongoose.

Starships: Hulls and That's No Moon

There appear to be no technological barriers to building any sized starship.

I'm surprised, outside of a tax payer revolt, the Terrans didn't build the Death Star and surprise the Vilani.

Did you know you can buy the hand annotated original MWM drawing of the Azhanti over at drivethru?

It clearly shows it was meant to be a tail sitting tower block from its earliest inception.

So whoever the un-namable source it, they are wrong.

What get's me so riled is:
MgT have used the tower block plans in a previous supplement
there are ships in HG with two pages dedicated to deckplans; at the scale the capital ship plans are drawn at it would have been easy enough to include the correct ones.

So you've never seen Mimas?

That's another issue that might be an oversight.

If you only burrow into a planetoid in situ, you only pay for the mining equipment and personnel, rather than hollowing it out and moving the planetoid to one of the local shipyards.

Fun fact: George Lucas came up with the Death Star years before anyone had seen what Mimas looked like (the first images from Voyager came back in 1980).

And before a planet orbiting more then one star was found.

Hmmmm perhaps...we should do a thorough search of his estate his starship has to be there somewhere.

What if his estate is his starship?

Could be part of Industrial Light and Magic.

Spaceships: Docking Clamps, or Carry On Caesar

What seems to be a carryover from the first edition are docking clamps.

If the fifty tonner is the largest size, how much is the maximum capacity?

Logic says the ratio is a hundred to one, like the preceding twenty tonner, which can hold two thousand tonnes.
