Shields

its in the rules under traits. but basically 20/1d6 means the shields can soak 20 damage worth of hits before dropping, however every end phase recover d6 shields.
 
they are ok, stop a few crits. currently the abbai dont do well in smaller battles though as the bimith sucks. they do have a god warship in the Jucaya though.
 
Yup the bimith really got the short end of the stick. lost agility, lost hull, lost guns. The shield are nice (the stopping crits thing is cool) and the bigger ships still have some intercepter dice, so you can stop a bit of the fire before it even gets to your shields. But the medium/small sized abbai ships kind of rely on numbers now,rather than quality. The kotha is poo on a stick as far as fighters go. It's not so much the guns, it's the fact that they are so slow. Your oponants fighters are always going to get the drop on them.

Lakara is an okay ship, but tends to get out maneuvered and beamed down nowdays.

Bimith is poo...

Shyarie also poo.... no weapon in your fleet benefits from scout, it has no guns of its own, and no defensive system that did not steal damage out of its track. That I was told it had to be this way due to it being available to the league when the Vree scout is available or the Eyehawk just added to my general disgust with the approach used to test the abbai.

Kotha is loose poo... slow and bad dodge/hull mean the fact that it has guns is a joke, that you are also the proud possessor of the only race that has no fighter choice that can act as an interceptor is the punchline. (Yes I hear the Drahk players... but they don't get fighters at all.)

Up sides....

Tiraca - good swarm ship due to having a beam.

Brisaria - dirt cheap escort (your kotha get to due something... become firing points for the escorts guns...) and has the Comm Disruptor which is cool.

Milani - solid skirmish combat ship that carries a few escort targeting points.

Marata - junk ship... but the speed and shields make it a good choice for a small blockade run scenario

Juyaca - great brawler... only issue with the ship is it has no rear guns worth noting. As a very slow ship your enemy will get behind you and nibble you to death, but you get some great moments as they go by.

Brivioki - not a bad ship... good guns and some survivability... only issue is the model is vile and the Brakiri get one with fighters that can do something for no increased cost. Frankly the abbai one should be able to carry the Brakiri fighters.

So... shields... nice if they had been stapled on above the old damage numbers like seems to have happened to the Juyaca... but as is the regen rates means they are largely irrelevant after turn one and your too small to live without interceptors or some other active defense. I've taken to using another races fighters to do the job.
