Mongoose
A couple of weeks ago i had a battle against the vorlons with a minbari fleet and the vorlons were awsome! that adaptive armour keeping them safe from the worst i could throw at it (including 3 sharlins).
Now when you fight a ancient race this is how it should be, hard work in a head to head fight.
I wish that could be said of the shadows, they dont intimidate me at all as the vorlons do and they go down quicker that a sweet sherry at christmas.
Where i,m going with this is adaptive armour or something for shadows in the new rules update lets put some fear of the shadows back in the younger races.

Ignore Katadder, he's suffering from 'Look at me, I'm a playtester' syndrome.

Shadows can be played, and they are effective, you just have to play them to their strength, and to the weakness of the opponent.

1. PL. Shadows dont fare well at low PL's. You want to get the PL, as high as possible.

2. Fleet selection. You might have the battle at war, but buying a load of Battlecrabs is going to get you wasted quickly. Try and get a few hunters in your fleet, a few scouts, and maybe 1 battle crab.

3. SM. Use it to your advantage, move your fleet on his flanks. Flying literally along the table edge, resist the urge to go barrelling in. It might mean you are going to spend one or two turns, just flanking the opponent. DON'T leap down the throat, of a beam laden fleet. Once you get on the opponents flanks, try to stay on his week arcs, and then pick off his weak ships (destroying his initiative sinks).

well he did mention next edition :-p but if you want tactics for this edition use scenary. combined with SM as i found an asteroid field in the middle can really break up the enemy whilst you can fly around it easy and stil face them with your guns.

No he did'nt, he said "New Rules update", not "New Rules", "Next Edition", or "ACTA 2e" :P

Despite being very maneuverable with devastating weapons, Shadows can be tricky to get right. Used in the right environment they are almost unbeatable...sadly the standard battle is 5pt Raid, no terrain so that doesn't help you much :(

This is a post I made a while back on some tips with Shadows after the armageddon update - hope it helps.
Shadow Tactics

I prefer to play either 5 pt Battle or 1pt Armageddon these days but I will just say this:

Generally speaking, unless Im just teaching someone the basica rules I will always try to use at leat SOME terrain these days. It can really change the way the game works :P

Has any one considered doing a stickied tactics thread?

As to terrain, it can be ok but a couple of demon rolls and it gets ridiculous,

10" planet with 3 moons and a dust ring, have you any idea how big the gravity well is?!

Are you crazy, it would only get deleted and no one would own up to it!

Nah, we could all reply 20 times with completely off-topic responses. Then it'd be safe from deletion \o/

But its a potential one stop shop for new players to get an idea on how best to use some of the fleets!

I tried something along those lines for Minbari but that seems to have sunk without a trace. Would be nice to get some stickied threads for tactics for different fleets though.
