Shadows playtest changes

That's a scope change that can only come from the Five Good Men and Matt himself. I'd be fine with that type of scope change, but I would think doing it sooner would be much better than later.

Again, that's the game designer's and staff's prerogative; if he doesn't like it, we're kinda up a creek, and just need to test what we've got.

If you can convince Matt of these changes by getting enough support behind it then I actually have little issue with making it have these defensive stats but keeping the same gun :) Basically it has more Damage (and a Pinning score of 10) and a better Self-Repair and Shields than the Scout... sounds like a bigger/older Scout to me :)
I'm certanly for this change.
Right now I think that the shadows have just three ship types. Raid, War and Armageddon. Anything that would make it viable to give the Stalker the same quality for its point cost as the other ships would be a 33% boost to the shadows "funness*. :)

ahh my beloved Shadows:

The fighters - at least they are now worth taking - thank you :)

Merging and Psychic Scream are interesting

The Antifighter is a nice idea ( I prefered A Antifighter rather than Minibeam but hey)

The Shadow Space stations are cool -esp with the recent ideas on several thread including this one :) 8)

The Stalker is probably not quite good enough but it is better.

Concur that Shadows should ignore the Beacons 8)

Any chance of a Skirmish level ship..............

A Skirmish Shadow ship is probably on the same timeframe as the EA Crusade Raid PL replacement Omicron - an S&P issue as and when miniature manufacture kicks in again.

Of course, a skirmish worth of shadow fighters is now a somewhat decent option. Shadow Fighters, given the chance to get their claws on a ship, can tear it apart. with their shields protecting them now they get that chance.

With maybe a Raid level Vorlon ship as well hopefully ;-). For that though they could use the old AoG Vorlon Heavy Fighter I would think.

Cheers, Gary

I've always thought the old AoG vorlon fighter was a perfect Raid level vorlon ship! just like how the fleet action white star was turned into the white star fighter.

Would anyone use merging before your Shadow ships get damaged, ie at the start of the battle before they get in range of their own weapons, or is it too risky?

Its a possibility. I might suffer an extra turn of fire to move into range while merged, doubling up the shields would make two shadow vessels a pretty tough cookie to crumble. Of course, you are probably going to end up suffering more consentrated fire since your opponent would immediatly try to take advantage of the doubled damage if he can crack your shields.

Shadow fighters now have shields working in dogfights

mmmmmmm how exactly does that work out? I mean if you lose a dogfight your dead. Think I am missing something here.
Well I would imagine the first dogfight loss in a turn doesn't kill the shadow, but the second does.

Perhaps this should be a separate discussion but I don't get dogfights. I thought one fighter could only fight or support in one dogfight per turn. So the shadow fighter will always survive.

There are two dogfight phases, one for you and one for your opponent. So in the simple case of a 1 vs 1 dogfight, the initiative winner chooses who goes first. You attack them and if it is a draw (either equal dogfight results or the shadow loses and uses its shields) then they attack you. If the Shadow loses both, it is dead.

Well we haven't been playing it that way ooops.

Well I was going to say the Shadow doesn't have to fight back does it? But then I realised they can't move or be fired upon once in a dogfight so they'd be stuck there until the end of the game.

I guess this is a valid tactic to pin down enemy fighters, but it doesn't seem very realistic.
