Shadow Assaults and a BFG

Da Boss

Mongoose
Hi all

I was watching a ep of B5 and odly enough it recalled another episode where Garabaldi (with BFG) and other security are attempting to fight off a Shadow invasion of B5 in an alt future. (Go Shadows!)

so what you ask- well is some kind of Shadow Assault ship (I don't think we see the invading forces to confirm what they are just lots of Shadow warships) something interesting for the game (either edition)?

Also is it something we want to see (well I do but...........)

have fun :D

Might be an idea, although I got the feeling that Shadows could phase in and out of reality (or hyperspace) in the same was that their ships do. After all we do see them on B5 a couple of times with Morden, and even if invisible they would be rather hard to smuggle through customs as they ain't exactly small.....

Well in all honesty Id say its more likely that the shadow 'ground forces' wouldnt be shadows at all but their servants, like Drakh etc

Well, they were cutting through the hull, weren't they? But I always imagined that the shadow soldier (as in the episode with Dwight Schultz) would've been the type of alien they used to do their legwork - shadows themselves, like Vorlons, would probably not want to sacrifice themselves as foot soldiers.

Also, the shadow soldier thingy is able to board the sleeper ship in orbit, and travel through walls etc., isn't it?

yes the "Soldier of Darkness" that is exactly what I would expect the Shadows to use too

Not to mention other races with shadow infantry armour like shown in infection...

The armour in Infection was Ikarran, not Shadow.

According to JMS's episode introduction technology was shadow tech based...So probably shadows in one form or other helped Ikarrans to create it.

Ikarra was invaded during the last Shadow War, 1000 years earlier, it must be linked in some way

Did it say who invaded - ie which side they were on?

There is a brief mention in the AoG fluff about the Ikarrens:
They were regularly invaded over the years, and at the time the Minbari were creating their alliance against the Shadows (c. 1250), the Ikarrens chose isolation and developed their constructs to protect them.

But nothing is mentioned about Shadows helping them with the technology to see what would happen.... Or that the technology was developed to fight the Shadows.

what do the Vorlons get? A breaching pod full of historical serial killers!?

No, a breaching pod with a few nuclear weapon telepaths in it, perhaps.

Anyways, why would they use breaching pods? The Shadow soldiers can penetrate the hull easily, and the Vorlons would have put their agents (or themselves) on the target ship before the battle, without anyone knowing.

Probably backwards engineered tech, covert EA style rather an alliance.

Does seem odd - but they did seem to be burning through the hull etc............maybe a limit to how thick a wall etc or even they can't do it from space? Maybe they just thought it was more fun - cause more panic etc if the people can see them coming..........

be nice to have something to simulate this but breaching pods (for eveyone) seem to be just so rubbish.......?

How about the equivalent of a teleport type attack from a large vessel?

We do see Vorlons fighting in space around Babylon 5, and I'm sure that as an enegy being life support needs would be different.

The shadows could work differently, what if their breaching pods were launched like a fighter bomb, directly at the target?

In general I like the idea of Breaching pods as a weapon rather than a ship, 2nd Ed is having apparently one shot weapons so may fit in nicely..........

give em a nice short range and a good chance to get through armour - could be interesting......... :)
