Because the stats of ships in acta:sf have to be consistent with the ship stats in the rest of the star fleet universe that they are based on. This consistency is one of the great things about this game. We probably wont see ships change stats every couple years. This happens way to often in most other games were they introduce something that breaks the game and then have to errata everything that came before. What I can tell of SFU is that nothing new goes in that will break something old. If it does often it gets fixed instead of trying to balance everything else.

Because they share a universe that the designers wish to keep consistent

As far as I know the points for the ACTA ships were based on the points for the FC ships - so if the ships are different, the points don't work out.

And as far as I can tell, the JV agreement gives ADB final say on both design and stats.

ADB has done a very good job of building a continuing coherant universe for 30+ years and it isn't unreasonable that when they go with another game system but still in their SFU, they demand consistency within the various systems (ACTA, Starmada, Fed Commander).

the Romulan NovaHawk and RoyalHawk use the same hulls. the difference is the weapons loadout. the NH carriers 2xplas F and 2x plas S. the ROYH has 2xplas F and 1x plas R. the FireHawk is the heavy cruiser of the hawk series. it has 16 hull in FC/SFB where the NH/ROYH are beefed up FH hulls which have 20 hull in FC/SFB. the NH/ROYH are pointed the same at 192, the FH is pointed at 179.

ADB has walked a fine line with "P" for a long time. they have to be picky about SFU to protect their license. while this will drive you nuts from time to time you will get used to it. I have been playing SFB since the pocket edition and thru the ups and downs it is the most consistent "trek" universe. Svc does not rush things and if you stick it out you will be happy you did.

AdmitalGrafSpee the points aren't exactly in line with the SFB/FC points values, especially with regards to Drone and command ships as they are used totally different in ACTA:SF. In SFB (not officially used in FC) the Command rating is given by Flag Bridge boxes (an exception is Klingons who take this damage on their Security Stations which only they have in the Alpha Quadrant, so no Flag Bridge) which lets you bring another ship in your force, SFB has limits on how big your force can be.
Drone and Plasma Torpedoes move like the Suicide Shuttles operate in ACTA, though much faster so can be avoided as well as shot down, see the various Drone topics re that one!

For an Errata the Ship stats and points values do need to be corrected where wrong, more so than getting any new ships, get the current ones correct and finalised. Where any ship is modified it should be clear what the end stats should be , rather than 'add one Phaser-1 to LS/RE phaser banks' please put 'Phaser-1 LS/RS banks have three dice each' I request this because then it doesn't matter which version you are on your rule book or errata you are using, you will know what the ship stat needs to be.
