Selling up

Hypothetically, if I were to have an unopened Kzinti fleet box, squadron box and painted Klingon and Romulan fleets, is there likely to be any interest here or am I better off going to ebay? This is only a strong possibility at the moment but i'm trying to gauge interest. Your opinions would be appreciated.

I expect there would be interest, since others have sold their minis too. I note there has been a increase in people selling off their stuff. Are you giving up on the game, or is more need the money type of thing?

You might talk to Scoutdad; he has a lot of minis, and he's always on the lookout for more. :)

I'm tapped out for awhile, saving for Origins.

To be honest i'm giving up on the game due to lack of interest in the area. I used to play with one other guy, who is no longer really interested. The other gamers in my group are not interested either. Most of my energies for the coming year at least will be tied up with RPG stuff.
The only other person who is a potential player is more interested in a new minis game which has something to do with another sci-fi franchise...Q Wings or something :D . That game is also tying up a lot of interest at the local game shop. Bottom line is, I don't have a lot of gaming time and that which I do have, I have to use to play games my players want to play. Unfortunately ACTA: SF ain't it. I will no doubt keep the rulebook and probably some if not all of my Fed fleet. As I say, we are not 100% decided to sell the stuff yet but it's looking that way. I'll keep you posted.

Why is it that every time minis go up for sale, someone thinks of me???

I think I'm good on Klingons and Romulans.
I'm going to be looking to expand my Kzinti fleet eventually - but I'm good for now.

Any local/semi conventions you can go to and run games? I have little local interest either; at all the game/comic shops around here, it's card games or Eurogames.

I run games at some HMGS events, and just ran a game at a tiny local convention this weekend. I will be running at Origins.

I end up running games at conventions to stir up some interest, and get to occasionally play, but local players are scarce. I have one who lives 45 mins away, one who is 2 hours away. There's also a couple more 45 mins away but they are busy with other things, so they are very iffy.

I keep on plugging away at local conventions, and ask the players if they are local and would like to play again sometime as I'm trying to put together a group of players. That hasn't worked out yet, but I keep hoping it will.

I can see where you would be tempted to move on to something the local people will play, but be patient and work on it some more if you can.

Where are you located? Maybe we can find some people or conventions for you? Or if you are in the US, can you make it to the Origins convention in June? Or Nashcon in late May? Both will have lots of ACTA:SF events and perhaps you can meet some players there? Just tossing out ideas. :)

Tony, just looking out for you, don't you know?

I can understand the frustration you feel re lack of gamers in the area.

That may sound funny coming from someone who regularly has 10 to 12 people over to play SFB / Fed Comm / or ACTASF - but look at who comes.
Our core group of 6 or 7 SFB players from the 90s is down to 2 of us, and then we had to grow our own players. My two sons and Mikes one make up 3 more of our group.
After that, we had to plug away and keep plugging away just to gain any players.
Beyond that, we're gathering up the solo gamers out there.
We regularly have players driving 2+ hours to get in a game, just because they have no one in their locals to play against.

None of the FLGS will carry any of the ADB or ACTASF products, so we get no new walk-in purchasers.
Only one of the three FGLS within driving distance would let us run games in their store. And that ended about a year ago when it was dcided that no one was ordering those products and we were taking a table that could be used for WH40K or M:tG.
I offer to run demos in every FLGS within reasonable driving distance, but so far no takers.

Now its down to conventions, so I try to hit 2 local conventions and Origins each year.

And if i was closer id be one of those driving to tony's for a game. when my son leaves for college this summer my playing is probably over. my friends became frustrated with the slow release and moved on, so now its just me. The closest FLGS that I know will only carry ADB and they all only play Fedcom.

I'm a lucky one with interest soaring and all the players I want for a monthly game. I even have a Romulan with a 41 ship fleet.

That said, I'd be interested in the Kzinti.

One thing to keep in mind is that if you completely sell off those other fleets, your chances of attracting new players may actually go down. Right now, you can easily provide both sides for a game. This makes it zero investment for someone to try out the game with you. You can provide ships for both sides and even allow them to play a few different fleets. If they get hooked, then maybe they'll buy their own fleets.

If you sell off all but the Feds, then if someone does show some interest, they will likely back off quickly when you tell them all they need for you guys to play is to go drop $40 on some ships and then spend the time to paint them.

Hear me now, believe me later. Having both sides of the conflict ready to go is the only good way to draw in new players.

Now you could sell off the majority of each fleet and just keep a demo game sized force of each race...

That's a big part of why I have two and a half fleets now (Feds, Klingons, and a few Gorn), so all people have to do is say they want to play, and I provide everything else. Everyone I've run intro games for enjoys it, but getting someone interested enough to buy their own ships hasn't happened yet.

I might have a friend interested in the Kzinti. He's been meaning to get a fleet box for a while. How much would you be looking for?

I went a bit psycho trying to get people interested ive bought a fleet box and several singles and squadron box for every race in the game so far. My fleets may not be as large as son single race fleets owned by a few of ya but i can get a decent 1500 point game for every race.

I'm in the UK. I don't get much time to get to conventions, unfortunately. I appreciate the ideas, however.

I'll make a decision on selling the fleets in the next week or so, and if we go ahead with selling the fleets, i'll be sure to post pictures and more details. I'm not trying to mess anyone around and appreciate all of your comments. Just for clarity i'm in the UK. Thanks again

Hey Renny,

I'm interested in your Kzinti fleet box and maybe the Sqadron box (but I already have one). Let me know what sort of price you're looking for.

Also, I have an un-assembled Federation Fleet box (metal) if you're looking for one and want to just trade.

Where abouts in the UK are you?

We've started playing CTA:SF at my local club in Rushden, Northants NN10 0XH

I certainly would have been more than interested a couple of weeks ago. But I found some real deals online, and got 3 each Gorn, Kzinti and Romulan fleet boxes.

I just mention miniature, and wife gives me a sour face. So, will probably have to wait awhile for more. But I definitely intend to get a Romulan Royal Hawk, a Fed Mars BB, A Gettysburg CB or 2, and at least one more Lexington class CC. I also want one more Fed and Klingon Fleet Box. But like I said will have to wait a few.

The unfortunate part is ADB actually has the Royalhawks in stock. Dang the timing! I already have 2 extra Sparrowhawks, and 2 extra Skyhawks.
