Second edition

I read a post from Matt who told that the 2nd edition would not have many change. It shall be cleared for beginners however but the core rules should stay the same.

So why call it a 2nd edition if it's basically just an editorial revision, more to the point why would anyone pay 50 bucks for an editorial revision?

This you have to ask directly to Mongoose.

Fair reply indeed :) Thanks for the answers and I guess we'll have to wait for an answer.

think we will wait until judgement day for an answer :)

let's hope the "2nd edition" will not be a "tito's trading post"

I think Tito's is fine, at least you don't need to reference all the books to find the stuff one wants to buy. It did add some new items, some of which I'd been wanting such as barding.

Tito's was fine, useful for me to find info on a net! Probably was in some other book, but which one would take forever to figure out, and an equipment book was a good, easy, quick place to look for and find it.

But I would have liked Tito's to clarify the Cutlass matter of which weapons can be used with or without a penalty compared to it.

Concerning this 2nd edition, I hope there will be some possibilities to obtain magic points from other means that sacrifice.

Yeah, but he might mean from simply holding ancient objects and that sort of thing. That would be interesting.

Exactly (sorry for the misunderstanding and lack of precision).
Yes I would like if some items of power would be used as a PP reserve (a bit like the crystals in Runequest) but moreover I would appreciate if there were a rule to create such items (as in Call of Chtulhu).

In fact, I feel the rules about creation of magical staffs and wands are not complete. There is a table for special staffs, but it isn't explained in detailed what power they have.

I too think there was a bit lacking on the Item creation in SoS. It's also unclear on magic weapon enhancements and the like. I'd like to have a bit more info.

Remember that in Conan, Magic creation is not a core tenet in this game like it was in Deedledee.
You have a scholar, he knows spells, he uses them, and once in a blue moon he may have a SINGLE magical item, which by itself, makes him more formidable, but wont allow him to conquer the world.

Remember the most powerful magic item in Scrolls was the rod of Lightining from Tzatitlan.

Keep the magic creation minimal.

Add new spells, new feats, sure, but no MontyHauling.

In this game Hyborian magic isn't very different from what we find in Call of Cthulhu.

well as gm's you dont have to stick directly to what the book tells you. make stuff up, i do it all the time. aslong as it fits in with the world it'll be fine. the magic item creation rules are meant to be vague as it really isnt intended for player use but a guideline for gm's.

Just because one wants clearly written Magic Item creation rules doesn't mean one is looking for a Monty Haul. Some of us want a balanced and clear set of rules to work with. We pay for it, so we can ask for that.

I'm all for more restrictions, high xp cost, rarity, elaborate rituals for creation, super rare components and other variety of limiting factors for creating items and thus keeping them rare.

@Valaryc and Krushnak: I don't mind stepping outside the box, but the box should be clearly defined in the first place. Plus, some of us don't have or want to take extra time in setup.

I just read the book is (only) 160 pages. Is this correct or a mistake from Amazon? Especially when the former edition was 352 pages long, I would be curious to know what didn't make it in the book.
I suppose at least monsters won't be there as there will be a dedicated book
