Is anyone else disappointed with the changes to the Omega Destroyer in the second edition? I wish they had done something with the broadsides other than goofy slow-loading mini-beams.

I realize with the new Anti-Fighter trait the particle beams were redundant but I would have preferred seeing it bulked up with pulse cannons or given missiles or SOMETHING. Those slow-loading mini-beams just bug me.

Does anyone actually find the new Omega better than the original? If so, why?

I actually quite like the new version, also the mini-beams were seen on screen but never actually seen in game stats (I believe) until now so that's a good move.

The new Omega has more firepower than the old one and more hit points as far as I recall. It's picked up lumbering to balance it a bit, but generally it's an improvement. I can't believe anyone would prefer the old version.

I wouldn't mind the mini beams being non-slow loading (but at reduced AD)...but overall, I'm quite happy with the new Omega. It certainly "feels" right (to me anyway).

The beam firepower just flat out increased, and it is quite a bit more survivable than before. Lumbering is totally needed not for balance, but for fluff.

The Minibeams could be used as nonsl, but gahh, cant have everything.

The reason for the mini-beams being slow-loading is to make them flawed. If the Omega mounts light lasers, why don't the Warlock and Marathon? Suddenly the whole nature of the EA fleet changes.

There are (IIRC) three instances where we see the Omega fire lasers sideways, so the lasers needed to be on the ship to satisfy canon, however to satisfy later canon (ie the Warlock) and to stop the EA mounting weapons very similar to the Minbari, the light lasers had to be flawed.

I like the general increase in secondary guns and the main beam. Bore sighted weapons needed a boost to make the shot really count as they often become hard to get in later turns. I like the higher secondaries for the same reason, closer to fluff and needed in later turns. Lumbering was needed for fluff and balance, but don't like how it came about...would rather have seen must go 3/4 before a turn and 3 inches between turns or some such (maybe half, minimium 3 inches, with 3 inches between?). Just don't like the turret on a rail effect we've been seeing.

I like the new one very much. It has improved Lasers and better broadsight weapons. The only thing that I dislike are the variance of Heavy Pulse Cannon stats across the EA lists.

Really, can you tell me which episodes? I cannot remember any instance of Omegas firing sideways and if you can refresh my memory it will save me having to dig out my DVDs.

On the whole, I prefer the new Omegas. I do feel that the mini-beam thing is a bit odd. No other ship in fleet mounts them and they look like a bit of a sore thumb.
