Scout Pac Costs

On the CoTI forum, our esteemed colleague rust made a valid point: namely, the costs of the individual Pacs in Book 3: Scout seem to have been mislaid.

Is it possible to publish those apparently missing costs in an erratum PDF somewhere?

I did the scout pac sytem, and I think I've still got the cost and Traveller design stats calculations on them, I'll check with loz to see if its cool to post them. IIRC, the units were fairly cheap, about an order of magnitude less than the manpac, but the dedicated software sytems they had were expensive as hell. Note that the Manpac enhances the handpacs, particulalry with regard to interface software, so its cost for software is less than the handpacs.

The scout pac system is one of the parts of Scout I liked most, it fits
perfectly into my setting, and therefore I would very much welcome
the information on the pac costs. :D

Well captian jack said that it is much cheaper than the manpac and my gm ruled that the handpacs are about 10th the price of the Manpac so 500cr

Ahh so thats where you went (smile)

Yes, based upon Warforgedrelics' request, I went hunting for the costs and had found this thread and Captainjack23s' comments that the price was approximately an order of magnitude lower... hence the cost of 500 cr.

Now if "the Powers what is" want to clarify the costs, we'll go with that but until then...

Take care

So the hand pac is only 500 Cr but how much is the dedicated software system?

here is the original design I wrote for man & hand pacs pac costs and weights in scouts.
(assuming people don't think it's presumptive of me to post it..;) )

Basic stats for manpac:

TL 14 computer/5 mass .5 Kg, cost 5000. Specialized to run Intellect -2 (thus rating cost 0) intelligent interface/2; can load any combination of expert(skills) skills from component handpacs at normal space cost , and use up to two of them simultaniously.

Additional software generally running on the ManPac includes:
Security/2 (often run at 0 in security neutral situations)
Translator 0
Database.

Sniffer pacs:
Computer Stats: hand computer, Retrotech build:
Tech 8 computer, power 1 , specialized for Expert -2 ( in a specific skill) built at tech 14. Weight 5kg/2/2/2/2/2/2/ =.078Kg
Cost 250Cr/2/2/2/2/2/2 +25% for 1 level of specialization +100% for hand option: 10Cr.

hand packs (assay and etc)

Computer Stats: hand computer, Retrotech build:
Tech 10 computer built at tech 14, power 2 , specialized for Expert -3 ( in a specific skill). Running Intelligent interface/1 and Agent/1 Weight 1kg/2/2/2/2/ =.06 Kg
Cost 500Cr/2/2/2/2/ +25% for 1 level of specialization +100% for hand option: 80Cr.

As you can see they are way cheap as statted. assuming 1 cr =3 USD; about Iphone clone cheap.

I'd actually have them build for public use (ie non scout) at TL 12 (standard imperial) which would punch up the costs a bit (320cr/.24kg for assay pacs & 40/.31kg )

Almost certainly some of the assay pacs would be more expensive depending on their hardware. possibly the same for the resource pacs.

resource pacs:
"They are generally similar to Assay pacs with regard to size and options. The computer system is the same, with the exception that the Expert program run is Sensor(type)/3."

I didn't include the costs for the software on the assumption that its scout developed and proprietary (and thus essentially free after a few hundred years of use) or governemental open source.

I'd suspect that commercial versions may well need to include some program costs.

So, where ya been ?
I suffered from a mild case of science fiction roleplaying burn out and
am now "working" on a swashbuckling setting, based upon an alternate
version of the history of the Maltese Order in the 16th / 17th century,
with the BRP system.

But I will doubtless be back to Traveller in the not so far future ...
