The Quester's Guide to Duck
At last, a study of one of the most-loved, most misunderstood, yet most irascible and loyal RuneQuest creatures of all: the Duck.

The first of our Quester's Guides explores the life and lifestyle of Duck, explaining why they can be so bitter, what their true loves and ideals really are, and the motivation behind this highly loyal and fierce species. Within this RuneQuest supplement, you can discover their intense attitudes towards family and friends, their gods and cults, secrets of their courting and magic, how and why they feel insulted, their sayings, their weapons, and even their favourite sports and games.

And there's more: did you think all Duck are the same? Then find out about the different breeds of Duck, from the Barnacle Goose to the Forest Duck and even the handsome Harlequin. What do Duck think about trolls? About dwarves and wyrmkin? Find out all this - and more - in this packed sourcebook and, most importantly, find out why you should never call a Duck a duck...

Complete with guidelines on generating and playing Duck characters, full rules for playing a tabletop game of Duckbob, a Duck scenario ('Three Duck'), numerous new spells, this is a sourcebook every RuneQuest player has been waiting for. Long-neglected, Duck now come to life with the detail and background provided in this RuneQuest OGL supplement.

What's the PDF security like?

I was pretty happy with the security settings on Sceaptune's Collected Character and Petty Magick PDFs, however I'm more weary about Seraphim Guard PDFs after picking up The Backstab Gang. I was less than thrilled to find out that the security for that file was so tight that I couldn't even cut and paste the text.

Like I said, I'm happy with Collected Character and Petty Magick, but now I feel like I have to ask before I pull out my credit card.

The Backstab Gang is not put out by Sceaptunes Games, it is by Seraphim Guard.

While I can't speak to the Guide to Duck pdf Sceaptune's Lost Isles: Exile allows Cutting and Pasting.

Can you print Backstab Gang?

Doh! You are absolutely correct. It's by Seraphim Guard. I got my third-party publishers mixed up. My apologies to the folks at Sceaptunes Games.

Beyond viewing it on your screen, printing a copy is the only thing you can do with the PDF. For my usage, that's unacceptable.

I can understand locking PDFs to prevent people from editing them, but locking them to the point where I can't even cut and paste the text pretty much means that I probably won't support that publisher anymore.

Apology accepted, Captain Nee... sorry, wrong universe. :D No probs. It would be nice if you editted your first post, though, to mention Seraphim rather than Sceaptune... :)

Just fyi, there is nothing in anything Sceaptune Games does to stop cutting and pasting, especially in the Rune Sources series. Cutting and pasting something like a stat block or spell description is waaay tooo useful... and that's part of the point of them. If there are ever any problems, let us know and we'll chase them up.

But I'm glad you like the Backstab Gang, though, despite the frustrations.

Thanks, and sorry for the misunderstanding!

I picked up The Backstab Gang for some stats of thugs that I could use for my urban crime game*. I was so torqued off once I found out that I couldn't cut and paste the info that I had purchased, that I simply closed the PDF and designed my own generic thugs. I haven't opened up the file since then.

* Because I can't find much in the way of pregenerated NPCs for Runequest anywhere. Scenarios are often a good place to look for these, which brings me back to my original problem... :)

Hmmmm.... might be able to do something about that. We had something in the works to provide a load of pre-generated NPCs.

Obviously, the Guide to Duck has some with the scenario (counts: 14 NPC stat blocks, some for groups, and 6 pre-genned PCs who can be used as rich NPCs). Hope that helps.

I certainly would pick something like this up. The RQ II and III Box sets often included booklets and sets of random/wandering monster/npcs/encounters that I constantly recycled. Very, very useful stuff.
It would be helpful to purchase these based on encounter areas; for instance:
City and urban npc's,
Woodland and forest npc encounters,
Characters and creatures of the deserts and plains,
Chaos infestations/cursed lands encounters,
Rogues of the dock's and high seas etc.

The richness and detailed character of the old runequest random encounters were one of its unsung glories that MRQ is presently lacking.

Nice to see we're thinking along the same lines. :D

Does tha mean we can expect FOWL, with a bunch of pregenerated duck stats in the mold of FOES/FANGS?

Wow, the prievew for this looks really nice, easly on par with something from a big professional RPG company.

Hafbat doesn't just crunch numbers, he crunches ducks.

Mmmmm... Crispy Duck.

Back in my old RQ2 days, ducks were the only adventurers my clansfolk wanted the PCs to invite home for dinner. :)
A favourite duck saying (lifted from the book)
"Never trust a troll with a dinner invite."
