scary and cranky

Let me see LtR
Iordered my first 3 box sets on July 1 along with every currently existing book and two of each GF9 Template and Marker Sets.
Aug 1 ordered 3 box LAMI, 3 Chickenhawk, 3 Ape Two Bigfoot, two Nighthawk, 8 Cougar, 9 Grizzlie, 3 CHAS, 2 Heroes of MI sets plus my fourth box set.

For those whining about I spent X amount in the last year, I spent in excess of $1,000 USD in the last two months.

Add to that over 200 Union troopers from VOR as LAMI suitable proxies plus many other figures.

If anyone were to be upset by this change it should be someone like myself, but I am not. I am excited because it means I can axpand my force levels with much less effort once the new PPM figs start appearing in April 2007.
I will be able to alter the factory paint jobs to suit my tastes much more easily than going up from scratch.

Let those who cannot cope with change do as they feel they must. No one is screwing over them but themselves with their decisions to not support the game that I personally love. If they want to call me a fanboy let them.
I think us FANBOYS should start our own selective club, no whiners allowed.

I was just trying to point out (and your post supports that) we have ALL spent a lot of cash on SST, but its important to see this for what it is - an opportunity.

My Sons friends who play 40k (they have had the EE "Brown Shirt" indoctrination Lol) they are going to go SPARE when they see they can buy a pre-painted (better than they could manage) quality product WITH rules and reference.

I (for one) can't wait!

So, when do you want to start this club then ;)

I've got a massive pathfinder army sitting not painted and a huge number of bugs (100 warriors, 3 plasma, 3 tankers etc....) All a bit pointless now.
I like the new look and it's a great idea, I just hope next time we are all complaining about the new edition of a certain other companies games and how you have to buy new stuff to keep up we all remember this :)

I'm shelving £100s worth of models now, I'm accepting it as the new system looks great. But like a lot of others I don't think I'll entertain the idea of painting hordes of models when the company producing them is 'less than happy with' when a few months down the line I can get better ones that are pre-painted (letting me focus on personalities etc...)

People are never happy.... if models are resculpted early it's a disgrace as your stuff is outdated. If models aren't resculpted and rules aren't changed then that's the problem.

This way, new players will get into SST and to be honest, it's a revolution. Wargaming accessible to the masses as easily as monopoly.

Look at the bright side, at least it is not like a certain company that will not let you use older minis in there precious tournaments.

I have no problem using my old minis, and combine them with the upcoming new ones.

Combatdroid, I understand how you feel. The first time I read the announcement is was up in arms. Looks at my posts in the thread. But i thought about it for a while, and changed my mind. Yes, I'm sad that I won't have any new models to assemble, but I really don't see anymore what's to loose. As it stands now, if I go out and buy a box of warriors I have to spend hours assembling them before I can play with them, and hours more than that to paint them up. When EVO comes out I'll be able to go down to my LFGS, buy a box of warriors and use them to play a game while i'm at the store. Then i can take them home and paint them at my leasure, or maybe I won't even need to. As it sits, we're going from plain grey to prefessional paint quality, at almost no cost. Most of the sculpts aren't changing; and it not like they were never going to resulpt anything anyways.

I think you're getting a bit over-defensive (while it's not cool people are flaming you for your opinion), and I don't want you to blind yourself over what might just be a good thing.

I know it sucks that you've spent so much on mini's and now the line is changing. Most of the stuff will look the same anyways. But from what I'm hearing from fellow players on the board SST isn't exactly doing well. It wouldn't be any better at all if mongoose kept releasing sub par stuff until the game went under (Like "Mighty Armies" perhaps?). Then your mini's would be worth nothing at all. It's better to have Mongoose take the steps now to ensure that we have a game to play a year from now, and that all the money we spent hasn't gone completely to waste.

And hey, it could have been worse. They could have put out the forth, the dropships and the Coven only to change it all later. We're getting 8 months notice that these new figs are coming. How pissed would we all be if they dropped all this on us the day before it happend? Mongoose did the only responcible thing they could and warned us. Besides, how much more notice could we have gotten? 2 weeks maybe? Ya, maybe we wouldn't have gone out and gotten that army book or those skinnies, but hey, look at how annoyed (even the people who think this change is a good thing) everyone is that we're going to have to wait for the slingshot and the TAC? And besides, if they had told us they were changing the line and matt couldn't answer alot of the questions we had, more than a few of us would be wiggin' out.

Anyways, that's my 2 cents.

Come on...if he's going to be flamed, let's do it right:

What's with Hiro and flamethrowers?

Anyhow, I don't care much about these new models and the pre-paint thingy. Maybe I'll buy pre-painted, maybe not. It all depends on my mood.

If I need a set of minis ready to play within a couple of days then I'll go with pre-painted minis, if I want to convert or perhaps do my own painting scheme then I buy non-pre-painted minis.

Also, does anyone know if we'll be getting NPPMs for BF Evo, or are we stuck with PPMs?

Pointless? Paint them to your own colour scheme(that distinguishes them from masses of pre-painted colour schemes) and you have 2 huge armies ready to be played.

Hardly pointless.

Seriously...... If you have stuff that's not painted (like me) or partially painted (like me) or painted (like me), the pre-painted stuff ISN'T going to make it obsolete. Remember, we get the chance to be the smug bastard who looks down their nose at the young pups when it comes to the paint job. Why? Because we took the time and effort to paint and custom make our models. Our models will look comeplete different form theirs, especially since we assembled them ourselves.

Also, Kristovich, the answer to your question is no.

People seem to think the models that are being redone are going to be radically different, but I sincerely doubt this is the case. The vast majority of models are locked into a certain look because of their appearances in the movie and the CGI cartoon, and they're just going to be revamped to include more detail or to be easier to produced for the PPM format. I mean, you can't take the PAMI as they stand and make them into a model suitable for pre-painting. Not to mention there's going to be a degree of pose variation in the PPMs, which again requires work.

And of course, none of your old models will be invalid. Again, I don't foree them looking so radically different as to be unrecognisable, the scale is remaining the same, the only difference will be the paint scheme, and if you want to repaint the PPMs, it's not a problem.

And even if you don't want to get any of the PPMs, you just pick up the Evo rulebook and it'll have the stats for every Bug, MI and Skinny unit thus published updated for the new game!

I can understand the trepidation towards the new format - I'm not massively happy about it, but I'm looking forward to the new rules set, and because of the large chunk of my MI army that's finished, if I choose to get any PPMs it'll be a new army to use for demoing that I'll have to put zero effort into preparing. Hell, there's every chance I'll just finish my MI army off with old minis anyway!

Exactly Lorcan! For me, I have a box of LAMI that need to be finished up, then I got three boxes of Pathfinders to do....

I think the most important thing to take out of all this is that Mongoose are bending over backwards to accomodate as many people as possible with Evolution.

You mean we get unpainted minis ready for convertation?

That's just what I want!

Also, I have loads of stuff partly painted, wholy painted and not even asambled yet as well, so pre-painted might help me out there.

But nothing beats unassambled, unpainted minis when it comes to converting, wich is something I plan to do for BF Evo.
