scary and cranky

But why wont you play any more, Quark? Is the game sub-par as it stands? Do you not enjoy playing with the models you already have? Or is it simply because you have to wait a while to get more models?

for instance GW was producing new models right up until a couple of months before 7th edition,

A people never complain that GW release models that will be changed in a new edition, right uo to the release date?

this hobby is an addiction and Mongoose has just cut of the supply of fresh crank to its users, you seriously can't expect a turkey clucking for his fix to be civil to the dealer whos told him he wont be seeing any till April next year?!?!

I know you were joking, but that's not a good mataphor, since you can still keep playing with the stuff you have and still keep buying existing minis. SST isn't solely about buying new minis, there's a gaming side of it too.

So many people are complaining about the pre-painted minis. If you don't want them and prefer to paint your minis, just buy the old ones! They are still going to be produced so not to worry! I'm sure loads of people who enjoy painting will do just that.

I will avoid models that have been mentioned as being significantly redone (i.e. hoppers) but I don't see any point in not buying the existing Exos, ripplers etc

Yup. I have year time in England with only SST to spend money to(since GW refuses to release epic chaos. Loss is theirs!). Sounds like excelent time to start exo-suit/marauder platoons(I have already full cap platoon). Maybe even LAMI platoon if money allows or pathfinders.

It's not like I have already enough of what is already there

Just problem I can't buy the one model I REALLY would like to buy: King tanker. The idea of trying to send it to home after year in england through airmail scares the hell out of me. I forsee one king tanker in pieces!

Also what would have been better? Continuing old way which btw is just slow road to self-destruction...

Trust me, I'm more than a little miffed about the boxes and boxes of stock I'll likely never be able to sell now. Worse yet it means I have a lifetimes supply of the unpainted SST minis and will probably have to paint them myself before I can even dream of getting any of the new stuff.

But I'm realistic. SST wasn't selling anyway, so I was probably stuck with that stock no matter what. I also can't really fault Mongoose for making a better looking product, just because it makes the older stuff look worse - if companies didn't improve products we would still all be driving around in Model T Fords. I can hardly fault computer companies for making a better PC than the one on my desk in a years time, so how can I fault Mongoose for improving their products?

With the influx of new players the prepaints should bring in, there's a pretty good chance I may even be able to sell some of that unpainted stuff due to the extra customers - maybe some of those that come into the game for the prepaints are quite likely to still want the occasional unpainted set of figures for conversions or to try their hand at painting themselves.

The way I see it, the situation can only improve things for stores if SST wasn't selling in the first place, as there will be a wider potential customer base to try and sell the "unsellable" stock to.

Obviously that doesn't help you :( But at least I can let you know that I'm in the same boat as you as a player stuck with a ton of the old minis.

Bung em on Ebay Mat as an Auction, start at Cost + Vat and you should at least get your money back (+ a little extra).

Things change, its the nature of the very universe - its not hard to accept change, if you are open minded enough. Plus you have to think what would be good for SST & Mongoose long term.

The overall theme of the Starship Troopers Novel is to demonstrate that social responsibility requires individual sacrifice. The paradigm here is whats good for the game over whats good for one or two individuals.

Ok, Individuals aren't happy about this new direction for SST - but surely if its better for the Game - its better for everybody who loves it!

A bigger "success" for SST will mean more models, more choice, and in the end SST having to sort of longevity it deserves - and isn't that what we all want.

Just Some Thoughts

No a few months of incoherrent posts that are jokes done by users of the forum.

Ok sorry if you dont want to hear anything negative. Or you are not interested in another persons opinion if it differs from yours, thats ok. Thanks to those that could see where i was coming from.

In parting, i enjoyed playing my games of SST. This is no reason for me to stop playing. The point im getting here is that, I'm not made of money neither are my friends. I personally would have put off my purchases till i got the new rules and minis. This is how many new gamer will think. Ill stop buying and wait or ill put off till 8 months. Hey 8 months is long and short depending on how you look at it. As an LGS its a waste of time and money.

So i look forward to the new game and ponder the missing ones. Ill wait and see.

You quite obviousley can't take a joke youself.

Chill Buddy, they are doing this so the game continues. They aren't doing it out of a fit of peak just to P**S people off.

Well in that case how is this change so bad for you? This does not cost you anything and infact you can start saving money for new models without feeling all-too-familiar feeling for me(so many models, so little money) while dreaming of being able to afford that new squad on the store. Instead you save money while waiting and painting old models and then when stuff is coming in 8 months you can buy what you need.

I don't see how this change is costing you anything(or why else you are pointing out above quoted line?).

Well, I look at it this way:

I've pretty much already completed my MI company (need one more Marauder). I would be upset knowing everything is getting replaced except for two things. First, my units will still be usable with the new rules, and I can still use the old ones if I want to. Second, my guys have a different paintjob that than the standard MI, and will stand out against the new models without looking out of place.

The new rules had me a little concerned at first, until I realised the old rules will still be fully supported (and I won't have to pay for them.) The new rules will help streamline tourneys and the like, which is a good thing.

I am slightly miffed about having to wait longer for my TAC fighters and Brutes, but then I consider this: The Skinnies are being redone so I have less concern that my long-awaited Brutes will look like crap, and now I don't have to paint the TAC fighter, which I was dreading.

As far as modeling goes, I'm quite happy. Matt says they haven't finalised what plastic they're going to use yet, as they're trying to determine which will be best for modelling and stability. Personally, I've always had trouble customising metal miniatures, but for me it's a breeze with plastics. Having these plastics will allow me to customise to my hearts desire, and I won't have to worry so much about the painting aspects that give me fits, such as painting eyes. Instead, I can focus on camo patterns and bringing out other details, or custom unit colors.

look its pointless to argue. You are all fans here i used to be one and now feel a little burned. I have bought over 60 boxes and 2 starter sets in the last 12 months. now im being told the models are going to be different, better and well hey you could always do this this and this. Frankly if i had an idea SST was becoming part of the pre painted crowd new tech or not, myself and my friends would have shopped elsewhere. We would have waited till the easy stuff came out.

Msprange, where was the notice? for about the last month i got an inkling that there was a big announcement on the way. Myself my LGS and my friends assumed it was more Forth. Then when the new releases got pulled we assumed - mould problems, they didn't like the masters. We waited paitently for new stuff like the air support to appear. No explination was forth coming infact we got teaser pics from fellow posters of the forth.

Hey i may be some fo the few to whine and not shout GO MONGOOSE. But as a player and the way i see it a major private purchaser i had a right to feel put out.

You have a right to be annoyed and have an opinion, and I am a fan boy.

All I can say is, why are you not happy with what you have? I will still keep my models and buy some of the current range anyway.

Quit whining like a girl.

I could understand you being annoyed, but geese man, you are hystreical.

this comment just encapsulated my feelings on the company

PS - My hat's off to you for putting up with the grumps on the board, Matt. Believe it or not, the raging and negativity is only because so many of us who supported this game (and comapny) did so becuase it was different and better than the norm. Without additional information, SST:Evo seems (seemed) like a 180degree turn. I hope you prove me wrong.

as you can see flaming aside and after sleeping on it heres my opinion. I cannot stay angry at the company i just hope to hell it gets fixed on this one!

*looks left, then right, then pssts* Don't worry guys...it's not a total departure from the game we know and love. Trust me, when I first found out I wasn't entirely pleased with the idea. But the rules look pretty solid apart from a few bumps that need a touch of TLC to smooth out, and we still have all our self assembled, self painted miniatures we can be proud of. Think of it as a honor bit. Also, we'll see more people to play with, and you remember the smuch bastards who tell you all about how they painted their miniatures when we all first started the miniature wargame hobby...that'll be us! ;)

I have so far bought -

2 Starters

1 MI Box, 4 Lami Boxes, 2 Pathfinder Boxes, The Roughnecks, 1 Veteran Squad, 1 Wasp Packs Squad, 1 Bigfoot, 1 Nighthawk, 1 Chickenhawk, 1 Ape, 1 Reliant Gun platforms, 2 Heroes of the MI, 2 Chas's, & 6 Promo MI Blisters.

18 Extra Warrior Bugs, 2 Hopper Bugs Boxes, 2 Tanker bugs, 2 Infiltrator Bugs, 1 Mantis Hunter Bug, 2 Blisters of Control Bugs, 1 Brain Bug, 2 Boxes of Firefries.

3 Boxes of Raiders, 1 Skinnie General Box, 1 Skinnie Venerable Box, 1 Skinnie Lord Blister, and 1 Skinnie Soldiers Box.

Thats WITHOUT all the stuff I have bought as presents for friends to 'encourage' them.

I am fine with it, I see it as an opportunity and a step forward.

If that makes me a "Fanboy" then fair enough, better to be positive and considered a Fanboy I reckon . . . . . .

You seriously expected those models to last forever?

I'm positively sure that eventually even those exo-suits will be redesigned again. Things change.

As for better: That's matter of taste. If you like current models then this has invalidated none of the models in your collection. There's no law forcing you to use newest models even if you prefer old ones.

Still going to be same game that you can still use with your old models. So Mongoose gives us new options and clears the rules. And they are bad boys for that?

Why you start any game then? There's not miniature game that does not change as time goes so if you hate the change...Why play?
