The 1st book is 500-some pages. :shock: 8) So...how many volumes do you think it would take to cover the entire series?

I don't know but I think the savage sword of Conan issues were beefier than in Conan the barbarian (40-60 pages), thus I guess there should be approximatively the same number of issues as in Conan the barbarian.
The price is also very reasonnable and I guess this is because this series is B/W only (but still with Roy Thomas and John Buscema for the most part).

Since I have them all anyways this does not affect me. BTW, there are so many great campaign/scenario material in these mags that I am kind of viewing this as a negative for gaming purposes. I was confident that my players would not connect storylines from the old mags but with this info at their fingertips, I need to be more creative. Great for the Conan army though so, overall, a positive.

I guess, but the Norwegian publisher (Bladkompaniet) has been publishing giant-sized, 300-400 pages in each volume, (translated) reprints of Savage Sword since around 2002. They just released the 8th volume.
They are not reprinted in original order, rather, each volume contains a complete "story arc" such as the Saga of Belit, the Skull of the Seas, etc. Good stuff!

But the saga of Belit is in Conan the Barbarian. (just finished the last reprinted volume with the death of the she-pirate). Do they mix both series?thulsa said:
I appreciate the way Roy Thomas ordered his stories in the Conan the Barbarian series, especially when he adds/adapts other stories from Howard but I don't know much of the Savage sword series.
I also love the comment of Roy at the end explaining and detailling why things were done this or that way and hope he will also comments the issues of the reprinted magazine.
Looking at the price and the amount of pages and the style of other comic publishers b & w trades - Essential & Showcase - I'm guessing that Roy probably will not have his column. But, I would love to be proven wrong - Roy's reminiscing about the old Conan stories are worth the price of the Chronicles. I just don't see DH adding them to the B & W mega-trades.

I wonder if these reprints will be edited at all. If I remember correctly, the first 60 or so issues of Savage Sword of Conan showed bare breasts fairly regularly. After issue 60, they were still fairly risque, but no actual nudity. Luckily, they all featured extraordinary violence - Hyboria's finest!

Me too! I greatly enjoy such background material. He even admits that some stories were just quick filler material, that the "crab-men" looked more like ninja turtles, etc.
Oh, and I actually prefer black and white (as long as it's properly inked - Buscema/Chan-style!) to the new color stuff.
