It's not really the swarm, the Marta is a Skirmish level ship with Hull 6 and 10/2 shields. It has lots of Twin linked dice and can really take some punishment. It really is a good balance of ships when on the table. If the Patrol level ships were 2 for 1's then I would say it was a swarm fleet, but not really.

I don't think the Marata is a particularly good ship. It doesn't even compare particularly favourably with the Rongoth and that isn't great. Against a T'Rakk or Chronos, which are both very good, it's pretty poor.

The problem with the Abbai is that the shields are often well depleted by the time it gets into range, and at that point shields almost become a poor mans GEG.

I don't dispute that the guy in your campaign was causing you problems with them, but there are many fleets out there (ISA being a prime example) for which the Abbai have no answer.

It's under par if it doesn't make it to the battle Hiffano. It is only speed 7 afterall. Oooh you could all power to engings and get up to speed 7.5! You lumber and your longest ranged weapon is 15.

Dave

Not much different to an Octurion, except it's faster. Octurion moves a mighty 6".

It's a typo, if you look at the 150% speed of 7.5" then all becomes clear, the Juyaca's speed is 5" and is slower than an Octurion.

An inch slower than the Octurion, fair play. So's the Balvarin. I'm sure there are other ships at similar speeds.

Use those jump engines, all power to engines and do the best you can. Nobody's making you play Abbai!

I know, it was a joke, but still, with the exception of the raiders, almost any race should be able to stand toe to toe against almost any other an stand an equal chance of winning (though I do like some rock paper scissors dynamic).

The game should be balanced close enough that a player can field their favorite race against a totally random opponent and (skill being the same) come out ontop 50% of the time.
