Cosmic Mongoose
well its out, and unsurprisingly nothing for us guys again:

http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/home/detail.php?qsID=1657&qsSeries=13

59 was last CTA stuff so thats 3 months now with nothing :(

Ok nice new look to S&P, too early to say if i like or not.

But AGAIN nothing of interest to us ACTA players, even after getting comments a couple of issues ago about gettig all the Playtest stuff being released..... and how long are we waiting for updates on that perticular issue......

All i can say is NUFF said, we can make all the comments we like, but it the preverbial getting their ass's in gear and doing some work, we sit here waitng and it seems like nothing is getting done!!!

The first guys at the local club started selling miniatures as they now think Mongoose has no further interest in ACTA :( .

No Minis, nothing from the E-C War Event, nothing for ACTA since 3 S&P's.

Well, given that everyone can see we're in the middle of a major product playtest and the miniatures are being re-released this month after the long while it took to clean up many of the moulds... yeah, they've obviously been keeping up to date with things

(except for S&P that has no articles again...)

BTW, if Matt were up for it, I'd happily do another battle report for S&P. Anyone think this would be a good idea?

maybe they need a P+P editor who will give equal billing to Miniatures and roleplaying.

I enquired if they wanted to have the campaign system ive been doing for P&P but was told they didnot want to go that way in publishing :(

Oh well it is there loss.

It just seems that we ACTA players have been left on the side ever since miniature production was halted.

We got a brief glimmer of joy when the Playtest rules where released but since then........................

well, stroppiness aside.
Mongoose said a third party could not do miniatures
they said P+P would be out this summer

so you know, people will loose faith when a company isn't overly honest about stuff. And the "new" miniatures are overpriced anyway, and p+p might not be out till next summer for all we know, and every acta article anyone submits is knocked back.

P&P is in its final stages with the next playtest pack to be the last major playtest (barring tweaks as needed). It was delayed due to popular demand - they really could have released it last month if that was what people wanted. Instead we'll have a better product and on balance I think that's what people would prefer.

As for miniature prices - I agree to some degree however for me, any miniatures are better than none. The prices seem to be industry standard if you included the setup costs for releasing an entire miniature line at once (fighter costs unknown at the moment due to not knowing how many per pack).

Mongoose's prices were pretty low. Compare to Games Workshop who deliver a much better product than the ACtA models we're used to - the price is a lot higher. It's not unreasonably high, though, and costs are climbing for everyone in every industry but the customer doesn't want to pay more. Like the dastardly Triggy says, any models is better than no models, whatever the cost.

in all fairness, buying a jag is cheap compared to GW prices!

but I have bought a complete British Paras army for Flames fo war for less than a decent battlefleet using IW prices... by some margin.

each to their own of course, i mean one buffalo for my trolls costs as much as a G'Quan, so horses for courses

Flames of War uses tiny little models no bigger than dust mites, though. They're bound to be comparatively cheaper. GW's prices are pretty fair for what you get, yes they're high but they're also very, very good. Some of the newer plastic kits are so loaded down with options it's unreal and all that design work costs a lot.

Compare ACtA models to BFG ships, the prices are pretty similar for comparably-sized models, but the BFG models come with assembly options in most cases. A BFG cruiser can be made into half a dozen different ships, that'd be like having a plastic Hyperion you could build as any of the variants with separate turrets and the like.

I know the models are tiny, but I have the same amount of metal in my army than in a decent sized battle fleet.

I see no point in me debating GW as people who play it love it and defend them to the hilt anyway.

Not so for me, Master Hiff. I just see that they're not as unfair as people claim. Maybe they could reduce prices a little but I strongly suspect much of that money goes to pay the designers and technical people, who are all very skilled. Can't really cut their wages to satisfy moaning customers.

indeed, I cannot argue on the quality of their gear, the design work is nice.

The company's philosphy I can disagree with for sure, though some of their price hikes in the past have been ott*

thats a point, are we not due a new Tau codex? the old one has been out for what, two years? I need all my remaining units to become useless, not that I play anyway.

Indeed. I visited a 40K tournament last mont and loved the miniatures, especially the drop pod and Baneblade tank. For the prices one pays I think he gets a decent value back from GW. Great designers there.

I'm not a great GW "lover" and I don't really play any of their games at the moment, with the exception of WAB for which they don't produce figures anyway.

However, one thing I would say in GWs defence is that if you look at their financial statements (which is a matter of public record as they are a PLC). they don't make what I would consider *obscene* profits. The overheads for a company like GW are going to be pretty high when you consider the strong retail presence they have in the UK at least, and the one thing they do do very well is bring new blood into the hobby.

Dave

Hi guys, If I have said it once I have said it a million times... if you want it, write it! We have a severe shortage of people who have a decent knowledge of ACTA and can also write. Anyone who wants to do a battle report.... do it! write it up, take pictures during play and preferably mock up a map or two that I can get my artists to redraw. and then send it on over to me.

If you have a good idea then email me with it and if it is a good one then I will do all that I can to help you to get it into a good article and see it in print.

Believe me I want the overall feelings for S&P to be good from all quarters but if no one is willing or able to write the articles then I cannot publish them.

Yes I do not accept all submissions because some have either information that is incorrect or conflicting with the core rules, or they are not at all well written. That is the same as any other magazine, it is my responsibility not to print something that isn't to the high standards that you guys deserve.

I have loads of Conan, Traveller, Runequest, BFE:WAW etc, all because people take the time to write for it, so come on guys, take charge and have a go yourselves... see what you can come up with, I'm certain that some of you will surprize youselves... and don't forget that all published articles are also paid for!
