I have had quite a few request for Russia to appear in the game. Unfortjnately, while they are certainly on the list, it will be quite a while yet before we introduce a new faction.

However, fans of Russia can watch this in the mean time - should get you in the mood nicely :)

Please Please il love you forever and stuff :D

ps did you read the message about russian tank organisation i sent you the other day :D

How can you tell us there will be no Russians for a while then ask us to watch that video....

Thinks.....

After seeing that video maybe a its a good thing there will be no Russians... as it seems the Russian troop choice will be missiles, more missles and for variety some bigger missiles, oh and two guys with AKs and RPGs. Then loads more missiles a couple of nice attack helicopters, more misslies, some fancy tanks then some rockets, and maybe some special forces at the end to come in and clean up any survivors....

Judging by the time devoted to them they will come as basic troops in 10-launcher squads ;-)

So many missles!

All those tanks were moving at very high speeds, i've never had to deck it away from one so had no idea they could move so quick!

Guess i've watched too many WW2 films where a horse seemed to be able to outrun armor.

Are they really capable of such speeds, forgive this question but i never been in army or military show, i now have a new phobia of tanks!

I see the Russians as being an arms dealer to the MEA in their current relationship in the game. Besides, if the population trends in Russia continue (according to some analysts), they will be a part of the MEA at about the same time period that BFE is designed to be in.

I'm not necessarily beleiving this, it's just what some authors are saying. This gives players of the game fodder to build up reasons for a "world at war" that BFE is set within. One author's contention for example is that:

Moscow is estimated to have a Muslim population of 2.5 million - the largest of any European city other than Istanbul.
Muslims make up about 25 million of Russia's total population of about 143 million, or some 17.5 percent of the population. (That makes the Muslim percentage in Russia just a bit below of the Muslim percentage in Israel.)
If current trends continue, more than half of Russia's population will be Muslim by mid-century.
A bestselling novel in 2005, The Mosque of Notre Dame de Paris, depicts a mid-twenty-first century Europe where Islam is the state religion and Christians are restricted to living in ghettos.

Another author states:

In 2015, less than ten years from now, Muslims could make up a majority of the Russian military. Military service is compulsory for young Russian men, though only 10% actually serve due to college deferments, bribes to escape duty, and the like. Given the famously brutal Russian military, perhaps avoiding military service is forgivable. But will the generals be able to avoid having a Muslim military if most young men who haven't fled Russia are Muslim? Will such a military operate effectively given the fury that many domestic Muslims feel toward the Russian military's tactics in the Muslim region of Chechnya? What if other Muslim regions of Russia—some of which contain huge oil reserves—rebel against Moscow? Will Muslim soldiers fight and kill to keep them part of the Russian motherland? …

None of this may end up being factual, but it does give options for how Russia might fit into games of BFE and how to design scenarios (for some players).

All those wonderful Warsaw Pact vehicles that even now are all over the world. YES! Please make Russians either as a faction, or at least release the vehicles as part of a Arms Dealership.

I read that piece before myself. I've seen others write some nonsense about France being a largely muslim state. Russia has a large central asian muslim minority but I cannot see it growing to take over. Independence? maybe but takeover in Moscow or Paris? :?:

Couple of points:

The Black Eagle isn't going into production.

However the T-95 is, and the saudis have put in a big order. The T-95 is the next generation after tanks like the Challenger II, Black Eagle, and M1A3. Expect to start seeing more of them in the next ocuple of years.

Russia is particularly proud of its missile forces, and they have taken a big share of the defence budget in the last few years. They've also just commissioned their first SSBN sub in about 20 years, as part of the arms race started by son of star wars. Even now China and Russia are looking at ways to defeat the anti-ballistic missile defence system (though firing more than one missile a week seems an adequate way around it going by its test performances).

I'd love to see Russians as a playable faction, and if someone wants to throw me some info on equipment and squad organisation I could put together a list.

I have no problems with Russia being one of the major arms dealers, but they aren't the only country selling arms.

I do however have a problem with thinking of Russia as part of the MEA... Whilst Russia does have a significant Muslim population it has a far more significant non-muslim population who ain't going to roll over and let the Muslims take control.....

Russia needs to be a faction in its own right, if its going to take a year before MGP gets round to it then it takes a year :( Mind you I am also wanting as much BF:Evo and SST:Evo releases for existing factions as possible.....

Yup, but hopefully with a few less missiles than shown in the video.... Oh and maybe with toned down attack helicopters.... they looked awesome (have never seen an Apache at work, but have heard from a mate what its like coming under fire from an A10, and those ruskie helios looked worse).

There is a story that when the first M1 tanks ("no A1, no A2 and no bl**dy A3!") rolled off the production line they had to drive them up the highway to a nearby holding area (or something). The state troopers closed down the stretch of highway and the tanks, at that point without any limiters fitted to their engines, roared off, gas turbines howling. That state troopers clocked them at something daft like 80 mph and dutifully issued speeding tickets to the tanks, in etched brass which were affixed in pride of place.

A possibly apocryphal story, but modern tanks are capable of quite high speeds, and more importantly, high speeds over rought terrain whilst still traking and firing their main weapon.

Like I said, I didn't necessarily believe in what they said, as it was more as one possible future path to take. One way to "slip" the Russians in is to continue fielding Russian equipment, such as the MEA's Tunguska (Russian-sourced), and then when the Russians are made as an official "faction" the models can serve in both forces. The MEA (as I've said before in other topics) can use equipment from the West as well, fielding Hummers and other mixed-source models. As far as marketing goes, Mongoose could just have some of the previously released models offered with new paint jobs for later use by a Russian force or other new factions. Having alternate paint schemes is a real cost-saver to paying for new model tooling costs. So really after just a few more model releases for the MEA, it would be a "short trip" to add the Russian "Team" to the game officially. :)

Not sure about that Buships, it would end making the MEA (none milita armies) and Russians potentaily very similar.

I am hoping they will do more to differentiate each faction as much as possible. Yes both the USMC and EFTF are going to be very tech heavy, but hopefully they will go in different directions with it.

I would love to see the PLA really go for the human wave (a drop in the cost of the infantry would be a good start), where men and equipment are cheap but never seem to run out.

The MEA I hope are going to become a fanatic based force with the testicular fortitude to hang in there and give a good kicking, I really like the idea that the Feds are immune to suppression. In the games we have had so far suppression is a major factor, and having an army that isn't so bothered by it will give it a lot of strength.

I think that the Russians should follow the tech route, but use it to get more feet on the ground quickly and support it with lots of fire power.

.

only according to the CIA to the rest of the world their on the order books and the first few for exsport should be deliverd in about a year or 2's time ;) the russian federation or whatever we like to call it already have a few, ten have been used in displays already so they got atleast 10 by the looks of it, an their tank platoons arnt like ours so thats several platoons worth once yu add the standard russian support units as the employ converted T72s armed with rocket tubes to engage enemy armour and anti tank guns so the eagles and T80's can move unhindered, while anti infantry platoforms engage enemy saving the tanks from unessary confrontations.

a proper russian tank platoon has more than just tanks, unlike other forces in the world.

faster than a M1A2 and a rate of fire that could probably allow it to shoot once per action with its main gun rather than once per turn.

The eagle has landed, its real its fast its crew are immune to above hull shots as the turret is unmanned, with all 3 crew bellow in the hull double layered protected to protect the crew, the tanks are cheap as well, also my nabour a tank buff has touched one ! hes also weid enouth to travel the world visiting and taking photos of VC graves.

either way BF-EVO is about possable future weapons in a non real world set up, so the black eagle if it is or not as far as many concerened a real tank, is totaly justafiable for the evo world.

we can argue till cows come home about the eagle, but we have to agree that as far as evo is concerned its a viable modle to make and would be fun to use.

Hmmm Toughness - has to fail 5 armour saves before it is killed, 1 kill result = the automatic failure of 3 saves. (So it takes 2 kill results to kill this beasty....)
